I haven’t seen a MI that I remember anything except 1 and whatever one had a super long no cut running scene and the fake face masks that are undetectable and real bull crap…

Is it worth watching as a complete series? Is there an overall arching plot?

I mean this is just spy genre stuff that all imitates James Bond. There is some loose connection between missions but no real overall story Arc.

James Bond, Jason Bourne, John Wick, whatever Tom Cruise characters name is. It's all the same formulaic espionage/action bullshit. Guns, fast cars/motorcycles, big titties.

Although they seem to have strayed from the big titties lately. "Modern audiences" being mostly gay curious soy boys...

Dude, they've had Michelle Monaghan, Rebecca Ferguson, and Hayley Atwell. Not your standard mindless T&A, sure, but that's some all-time eye candy.

It's kind of the same thing over and over. I'm saying this because I watched all of them I guess the last year at some point just haphazardly in the evening. That's not a bad series and there is an overarching storyline. That's not anything that's going to blow you away, and I think it all comes down to there being some auntie mission impossible evil group out to do bad things or something stupid.

Are they entertaining, they sure are. Are they going to be one of the greatest movies you've ever seen, hell no. Honestly don't really remember what the plot was from the last couple, and I guess at the next one comes out I'll probably have to try to go back and watch the last few just to remind myself of whatever stupid plot point shit they were pushing.

It's s basically Tom Cruise's James Bond if you really wanted to sum everything up.

Is that a good answer...😉?

Seriously what the hell, the first one was really great. I will completely agree the second one was stupid Oriental gun-fu shit.
At the time, the first was very good. However, since seeing what the series has become, it's trash.

Like when he folds the gum to make the giant fish tank explode, but there's 0 fish inside of it. It's just a giant tank of water. I thought the third was pretty badass. Philip Seymore Hoffman was a good character, hanging upside down out of the C-130 like that.

Depends what you mean by good. The first one was actually a noir art film, second was 90's John Woo that was only ok and hasn't aged too well, others are fun heist/action flicks. I'd say the Rotten Tomatoes rankings are at least directionally accurate.

#1 is still the best, 3456 are really hard to judge. They all are a mystery which #1 does best

fallout is still a fantastic movie, superman cocking his arms is just peak cinema. i wish they had done more with the bad guy from that movie

the trailer is still so good for fallout. i'll see this in theaters just because Fallout was so good, while 7 wasn't as good as fallout this movie is wrapping up this storyline so gotta honor Xenu on his last voyage

I would consider 1 (at least the first 90% of it), 2, and 3-8 all separate genres.

While the internet now hates JJ Abrams (you should hate DIsney for not having a long term plan for Star Wars and letting Rian Johnson throw grenades into the franchise in the middle of a trilogy), I still think 3 is the best of that third genre, with mask plots that actually have an impact, introducing Pegg, and Hoffman remains the most menacing opponent in the franchise.

But honestly, the rest of that third genre have their own strengths as well
4 - Directed by goddamn Brad Bird - Patton and Renner are solid additions.
5 - McQuarrie comes in and Rebecca Ferguson.
6 - Cavill and The Bathroom
7 - Atwell and, um, sets up 8.

That said, I still think 1 is the best overall - I saw in the theater that first weekend, and even as a teenager, I was impressed that the director had forced the entire goddamn theater to be silent for that NOC room scene.

If I'm not mistaken, fallout is the one with the plexiglass holding cage. Not going to spoil anything more than saying just that.

EDIT: Ok, I was mistaken. Fallout had to do with the nuclear camp.
It was Rogue Nation that had the holding cage.

MI 1 is still so great to watch, the cinematography is awesome. The director told Cruise to do his own stunts

The first is still clearly the best to me. Saying it's trash is a real hot take. The best in terms of suspense and tension.

Two is almost MST3K kind of watching for me now.

Three had great intensity with superb actors. Hoffman isn't topped by anyone. It's one of the few that actually had some emotional weight to it. The story itself was overall pretty thin.

The rest tend to feel more formulaic and the core narrative gets recycled as it transitions to more pure action. Four you barely have a villain. There's always good action pieces but most of the attempts at adding stakes or depth fall short and the mystery parts can be pretty simplistic and silly. The betrayals that happen are meh. The suspense/tension that exists in 1 and 3 never really comes back to their level, either. The series has had consistently good female casting, both in screen presence, acting, and attractiveness.

I can't recall any nudity in any M.I. movies. Not even hinted.

Bond was always pretty racy for PG rated movies. Lots of implied sex, partial nudity and brief nip slips.

Craig the homo bond, we only get to see his ass of course.

I'm getting a row for my bros for part 2. Out side of Casino royal MI is the best spy action stuff.

I don't think any of the newer bonds can hold a candle to the MI flicks. Casino Royal and Eva Green are the exception.
