2.) If you have to because of family bonding you can't escape despite hating it (I'm Italian, I totally get this!) than tell her you need to pay the bill directly, or ask for a power of attorney. This way, if she refuses (Which I'm guessing you're going to say you've thought of this and she did refuse) then you can say "I'll help you, it's up to you".
