Very exciting trade deadline.

Stephen Drew to Yankees, dunno about return

Andrew Miller to Orioles. Sox got a legit top 100 prospect for him. Very impressive.

Edit: apparently Stephen Drew for Kelly Johnson. don't really get it from Sox Pov. Maybe saves a bit of money?
If I had to guess, it lets them move Boegarts back to SS and that will leave 3rd open, which they can either place Middlebrooks at if he returns or someone else need be. I never got the late Drew signing to be honest.

Fucking Detroit. They now have the last 3 AL Cy Young winners and last 3 AL MVPs on their team.

That Price trade was quite a steal. Shocked they could not get more.

Funny thing is a few experts have pointed out the best prospect traded was sent for Andrew Miller.

Yeah, when the Dodgers asked about him, they wanted all 3 of their top prospects, but i guess no one bit, so they basically gave him away.

Verlander is just a shell of his former self. He's one of them power pitchers that has to adjust to losing his power. It might not happen at all. I dont think their starting 3 are all that fucking dominate. Like i said this isnt Verlander of 3 years ago.

They do got some hitting though.

Even with Verlander playing the way he is, they'll be fine with Porcello and Sanchez. Just as a non-Tiger fan observation, their closer situation looks to be a bigger issue. It looks like Joe Nathan has settled down a bit after a horrible June, but still, not what he once was.

I guess the problem with Lester and Price is they are essentially 1 year rentals, so while they are incredibly valuable, they also won't help your team beyond this year unless they can resign them.

If the Sox can resign Lester, then they will look like geniuses because they will have gotten their ace back and have Cespedes for 2015. Even if a Lester resign doesn't work out, they may be able to sign Miller (who is also a free agent at the end of the year).

Not so sure about the rent and re-sign mantra I keep hearing. They made him an offer already that was essentially shredded 2 seconds after it hit the agent's fax machine.

The best prospects traded this year were Addison Russell (for Jeff Samardzija) and Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson (for Joakim Soria).

Also, the package Tampa Bay got for David Price wasn't bad at all. They got a cheap MORP, a high-ceiling SS prospect, and a second baseman who isn't far removed from being a solid prospect. You have to understand that some of the most coveted prospects belong to teams who aren't even in contention (Twins, Cubs, Rangers, Red Sox) and they have no use for Price at the moment. The only other suitor that made sense was the Dodgers and I don't blame them for refusing to part with players like Pederson and Seager.

The offer at the start of the year was shit...not sure why they did that, TBH.

Motherfucker...best NL player since June but he's a Bucco, TIME FOR FIRST CAREER INJURY TIME!

God I hope they can manage a .500ish record and he comes back on the short end of that prediction.

edit: I wonder if this is related to the scumfuck Dbacks pitcher intentionally drilling him in the spine the night before.

In the 9th inning of a game they were losing 5-1. In retaliation for an obvious accidental hit batter. The day before. What. The. Fuck.

For Red Sox fans I think this coming off season may be the most important/interesting in a long time.

They have likely 90m+ to utilize. Along with an almost assured protected top pick.

The org is absurdly loaded with players near MLB ready. At AAA you have Betts, Swihart, and Owens as consensus top 20 prospects.

Additionally a swarm of fringe top 100 guys like Webster, De La Rosa, Barnes, Ranaudo, and Brian Johnson. Also newly acquired guys Eduardo Rodriguez, Edwin Escobar, and Heath Hembree to round out the pitchers. For hitters you have Marrero, Coyle, and Cecchini as guys at least in AA who project as MLB regulars or better.

Even without considering the lesser prospects like Shaw, Brentz, and others it's an INSANE amount of young players to possibly incorporate into the big leagues in the next cpl years with post prospects like Bradley, Bogearts, De La Rosa, and Workman working on establishing themselves.

I don't see Boston basically conceding next year to see what they have from all these prospects. The top guys will be incorporated + others who look good in the show, but I am guessing Cherington will look for some trade targets. Possibly trying really hard to get Stanton, or another young perennial all-star.

As for FA I think they will go hard for Scherzer as a legit ace in his prime. Lester is possible if the team thinks his improvement since last August is real. Shields is getting linked to BOS and I could see Ben trying for two of the three given how weak the FA market is otherwise. Resigning Koji should depend on price and a QO could make sense.

The Cubs are another team that will have a super important off-season, they have an amazing stock of elite prospects at the moment. Very curious how Theo's experiment works out.

"By the end of next year, Cubs could have Rizzo (1B), Bryant (LF), Baez (3B), Soler (RF), Russell (2B), Castro (SS), Alcantara (CF) and Castillo (C) in their lineup and Arrieta, Wada and Edwards in their rotation."

That is the core of team that could eb really good for a very long time. I expect them to be on the big FA pitchers also.

I think Sox have 15mil option on Koji for 2015, then he is a free agent (assuming he doesn't retire).
