Luhnow was on The Matt Thomas Show the basically the day after this story broke. While he was never asked, nor went into details about the investigation, Luhnow did say that all of that information changes and becomes useless after X amount of weeks/months. As it should. The only thing I guess it could give anyone is an insight on how they evaluate at X time and if it matched to the Y club had evaluated.

Liriano vs. Scherzer today, should be fun. Liriano has been better than his traditional numbers indicate, not getting great run support. Though not terrible, and he's had some shaky outings.

I think you have to put Rose in for nothing else because he's the hit king. There are a number of guys already in the Hall with a whole lot less integrity, sportsmanship or character. I'm not so sure he should ever be employed by MLB again though. It's bad enough that he broke the one sacred rule of any pro sport (gambling) but then he denied it for a long ass time afterwards because he was stubborn.

One note on Jeter, I think if he didn't lose almost 2 years due to his ankle issues, he probably would of kept playing to make an attempt on the record.
Looks like Rose bet as aplayertoo:

Notebook obtained by Outside the Lines shows Pete Rose bet on baseball as player in 1986

That pretty much ends his chances of getting in the HoF in my view. Unfortunate as he was one of the best players of all time but obviously had a serious issue with gambling.

Who gives a shit, his betting didn't influence his or any other player's play. For that he is banned indefinitely while people like Mark McGuire who cheated and impacted actual games are A-Ok

A manager/player betting doesn't impact the game? So putting your lineups together or deciding to take the day off, run into an out at a critical moment, or the like to help your team lose doesn't impact games?

Also, I have no clue what you mean by Big Mac being "A-Ok". He admitted he used steroids, won't be getting into the HoF due to it and never whines about it either. Why wouldn't he be regarded as a guy who came forward instead of pretending it didn't happen? He took his lumps like a man and thus people moved on. How can you even come close to comparing the two situations?

Rose didn't bet against his team, though. So as a player it probably had no effect (manager would be different).

If you a consistent bettor, picking and/or making the choice of not betting on a day on your team is betting against your team.

-edit- Not betting on your team because you don't like the match up on X day is betting against your team.

Then all players should be banned from baseball. They all bet!

That's the implication. If he bet for the Reds to win say 18 out of 30 days, does that mean that he expected the Reds to lose the games he did not bet on them? None of this matters, he's a flat out liar and he continues to lie. Heard an interview with Dowd (guy who did the initial investigation) and he said Pete has now lied to 4 different commissioners. He also said he believes the only reason Pete wants in the Hall is so he can write HOF on all the balls he signs and charge more when he sells them.

That's horseshit. How is not betting on your team betting against your team? Makes no fucking sense. It's not like he decided to just not hit the ball when he didn't have a bet placed.

And I don't really care if he gets into the HoF. I just think it's retarded that he is banned for life from pretty much everything MLB while people who have done worse aren't punished at all or to a much lesser degree

He knew when he started betting this is about the worst possible thing you can do in baseball, thanks to the Black Sox. He will always be remembered as a great player, but I don't think he should really be surprised if he never gets reinstated.

Don't really give a shit about the HoF in its current form anyways. They are going to whiff on a whole generation of ball players who used, which baseball is equally at fault for.
