LOL the whole Divisional and National League Pennant dominance by the 90's-2005 Braves was all on the arms of Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz. Get the fuck outta here.
It's still the same argument. Obviously the 12 times you've seen it occur otherwise invalidate the 40 thousand other MLB games that have taken place which show no correlation.

Sure. Balance is still better though. Compare those same Braves teams to the late 90s Yankees. Yankees rotation was good, but not as good as the Braves, but they hit a ton and the back of their bullpen was insane. Stanton, Nelson, Rivera. In a long series a pitcher will start generally 2 games sometimes 3 on short rest, but a hitter will impact every game.
Plus with the expanded roster I would say starting pitching matters less when you can have a shit ton of quality players out of the bullpen

Carlos Beltran is on fucking fire lately, after looking like he was 55 before the All-Star break.

In relation to the earlier argument, SP is starting matter less & less with the emergence of dominant bullpens. May be the difference down the stretch in the East, although I'd still prefer not to play the Blue Jays.

After the no hitter by Iwakuma the Mariners have lost to Boston back to back games 15 - 1, and 22 - 10. The 22 runs Felix was the starting pitcher. I hate being a Mariners fan.

Obviously teams continue to trade for top flight aces to solidify their rotation are just retarded.

Nobody is saying pitching is irrelevant. Teams trade for productive position players as well. Again if you have good pitching you might be better off getting another bat than an upgrade at pitching. It goes back to the balance thing.

Damn, going into the 8th MadBum was outhitting the Nationals 2-1 but he gave up a couple more hits in the 8th and 9th. He'll have to settle for outscoring them (2 RBI - 0) and recording 14 K's.

That's gotta suck. "Hey, make this spot start so our rotation can get an extra day of rest." Then that happens.

Hope he's okay. That was a fair bit of blood dripping onto his arm.

I still remember the worst facial injury I ever saw in a baseball game, but I'm starting to think I imagined it. It was mid-90's, a guy on the Braves named Danny Bautista took a fastball right to the nose/eye. He dropped like he got shot with a cannonball, and when he sat up, blood was just pouring out like a faucet. I tried to find it years later, but no mention of it anywhere.

Success, I'm not hallucinating!

Atlanta Braves outfielder Danny Bautista, who was hit in the face with a pitch Thursday night, will undergo surgery Saturday to repair his broken nose and the bone around his left eye.

Bautista will be out two to three weeks, the club said Friday. The Braves called up utility infielder Ed Giavanola to take his place on the roster.

Bautista was hit by a pitch from Jeff Parrett in the eighth inning of Atlanta's 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

I guess the extent of my internet detective work at the time was "No Youtube? Nothing on Wikipedia? I guess it never happened."

Those are some of the scariest sports injuries. The most recent ones beyond the Yankees injury (sucks to be a spot start and that happen) were the Brandon McCarthy and Aroldis Chapman hits. The Chapman one was especially bad. I can't believe he only missed maybe six weeks from it. Dude was writhing on the ground afterwards. For a while.

ARod killing the Twins this year. I mean he kind of does it every year, but this year seems especially gruesome. Yankees win feels good, have a number of Twins fans for friends and a nice comeback is a good way to end the evening.

A-Fucking-Rod. You know it's a special year when him of all people is getting clutch homeruns like that. These are big games too since it feels like they need to win every one since Toronto hardly loses.
