Yup. It's such an obvious thing. One of the big arguments for one game is it rewards Division winners more because the wild card teams will use their ace or at least #2 guy and throw off their desired playoff rotation. But some of that should be offset at least by getting a 4-5 day break or whatever it would be to fit in a 3 game series.
It's just so stupid to play a fucking 162 game season and then condense the first round of the playoffs to one game.
BTW with the BrewCrew holding up their end the Pirates technically had control of their destiny going in to tonight's game. If they won out it would be the division. Result? 1 hit by Arrieta and the Cubs. Fuck.
The two-time American League All-Star had a drop-off on the mound this season, due in part to having pitched with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He was shut down last week after pitching in 48 games with a 3.83 ERA and 32 saves.
Talk about peaking at the right time. Have to admit, when Yu went down and the way this team looked with 100 games played, didn't expect to see meaningful October baseball being played. 1 more win (or Astros loss) to secure division.
Basically the Astros need to win 1 game to get into the wildcard. As miserable on the road our hometown team has been, I like our chances to see some playoff baseball back in H-Town.
I don't expect the Rangers to do too much but it's good to see them in the postseason given all shit they endured. Also, I thought this was a good troll on the Astros:
Context: Houston had a flag that said "Come and take it" at one point.
