Lol what? Lack of spending money isn't the Yankees problem. Wasting that money on old veterans that get hurt a lot seems to be a bigger issue. Yankees still had the 2nd highest payroll in the MLB this year

2015 Payrolls And Salaries For Every MLB Team

1. Los Angeles Dodgers $272,789,040
2. New York Yankees $219,282,196
3. Boston Red Sox $187,407,202
4. Detroit Tigers $173,813,750
5. San Francisco Giants $172,672,111
6. Washington Nationals $164,920,505
7. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim $150,933,083
8. Texas Rangers $142,140,873
9. Philadelphia Phillies $135,827,500
10. Toronto Blue Jays $122,506,600

I find it interesting that only 2 of the top 7 payrolls made the playoffs (Dodgers and Yankees)
29. Houston Astros $70,910,100

Should've clarified, with all the back loaded contracts they have given to old veterans, the only way they will compete over the next few years is open up a little bit more money for additional pitching (if they don't wanna tax their BP again), 2nd base is a huge hole and Mateo is probably 2 years away. Cashman wants to stay under $189 which won't happen.

Can always patchwork the next two years, but the team will never actually compete.

Sterling, you're good people and all, but damn, this was amazing. I know the Astros may very well get swept by KC but hugging complete strangers at the sports bar I was at was pretty bitchin'.

Better luck next year!

I have the consolation prize of the Red Sox being in last place at least. Hopefully they go 86 years or whatever between championships again.

feels good. I'm terrified of the Blue Jays so thankful for the Royals, even though they're "built" for October, the Jays lineup just does not give you any breaks

Blue Jays are horrifying, it would not be surprising if they win it all. If Stroman can pitch like he has been, they have a serious chance.

As expected, last night only reaffirmed what's been going on the last month with the Yankees. They basically got old and tired real quick and simply just ran out of gas. Tanaka actually didn't pitch bad last night but last I checked it's pretty hard to win when you score 0. They've been hitting like that for a while now and it wasn't just because Keuchal was good (he was) but the way they were making out was so weak and feeble, I think they maybe hit 2 balls hard the whole game? By the 8th inning I wasn't even bothered anymore since it just felt so 'expected'. Astros have a good team but I didn't see any life for the Yankees last night.

^make it so.

Just FYI, Dallas Keuchel this season against the Yankees pitched 22ip 0er 29k 12h 2bb. That line also includes last night's game.

Poor Yankees... yall were just too high strung.

Royals and Astros should be a really interesting series. The Astros basically are the Royals from last year. Young team that greatly exceeded expectations, and probably got to the post season a year or so earlier than expected. As a Royals fan, I hope their Wild Card win doesn't give them the momentum to now just plow through the playoffs like the Royals did last year.

Two great young teams with incredible speed and defensive ability all over the field. Should make for some entertaining baseball.

And if only the Twins had made the Wildcard game instead of the Astros, the Yankees would be advancing then!
This is certainly the case.

Sterling, do you remember game 2 of the 2009 Twins/Yanks series? In extra innings Mauer hits this fly ball down the 3rd base line and lands like 2 feet fucking fair but gets called foul. It would have been a lead off double. It was seriously the shittiest call I've ever seen. Man I hate the Yankees.

Edit: I fully understand Nathan blows a save that game and we also load the bases after that foul call. I think I'm allowed to still be pissed though.

Alex Rodriguez Career stats:

162 game average in the regular season:
.297 BA
41 HR
122 RBI
.937 OPS

162 game average in the post season:
.259 BA
27 HR
87 RBI
.822 OPS

A-rod definitely has a trend of disappearing in the playoffs over his career. He played in 13 post-season series as a Yankee, and in only 3 of them did he hit better than his career average(2 of those 3 were in 1 year, 2009, he had a good 2009 post-season, but that was about it as a Yankee)

Not that I'm a big A-Rod fan, but wouldn't most players stats do the same over a large enough sample size? 162 games, you see a lot of shitty pitchers that are 4th or 5th in the rotation. Playoffs, you'll only really see the 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd due to how long they stretch out series.

True, most players get worse in the playoffs, due to the overall better competition. A lot of the all-time greats don't though (and that's why they're great)

Giant list of stats incoming...
(162 game averages)

Derek Jeter:
Career - .310 avg with 15 HR, 77 RBI, .813 OPS
Postseason - .308 Avg with 20 HR, 63 RBI, .838 OPS

Carlos Beltran:
Career - .280 Avg, 28 HR, 101 RBI, .845 OPS
Postseason - .332 Avg, 50 HR, 125 RBI, 1.115 OPS

Babe Ruth:
Career - .342 Avg, 46 HR, 146 RBI, 1.164 OPS
Postseason - .326 avg 59 HR, 130 RBI, 1.214 OPS

Lou Gherig:
Career - .340 Avg, 37 HR, 149 RBI, 1.080 OPS
Postseason - .361 Avg, 48 HR, 166 RBI, 1.214 OPS

Reggie Jackson:
Career - .262 avg, 32HR, 98 RBI, .846 OPS
Postseason - .278 Avg, 38 Hr, 101 RBI, .885 OPS

George Brett:
Career - .305 Avg, 19 HR, 96 RBI, .857 OPS
Postseason - .337 Avg 38 HR, 87 RBI, 1.023 OPS

Pablo Sandoval (not a HOFer, but known as a guy that turns it on in the post-season)
Career - .288 Avg, 19 Hr, 83 RBI, .791 OPS
Postseason - .344 Avg 27 HR, 90 RBI, .935 OPS

And how about 1 post-season turd

Barry Bonds:
Regular season - .298 Avg, 41 HR, 108 RBI, 1.051 OPS
Postseason - .245 Avg, 30 HR, 81 RBI, .936 OPS

Honestly, still quality numbers, just well below his regular season averages(which are ridiculous to begin with)

Didn't really know what to expect before I looked up all those stats, but apparently Carlos Beltran should be called "Mr October", as he has the highest jump in performance in the playoffs vs his regular season stats.

Also, any wonder why the '27 Yankees are generally considered the greatest team ever?, 2 guys with 1.200 + OPSes in the lineup. And lets not forget outfielder Earle Combs with his 23 triples that year and hhis .925 OPS. 4 guys with over 100 RBI (2 had over 160) Christ.

Not that it matters when that half human half rhino hybrid is owning Cole.

Edit: Cole got a couple friendly ones now too. Apparently it's just gonna be a big strike zone night.
