Yankees, Cubs working on trade involving Aroldis Chapman, Gleyber Torres

The Yankees and Cubs are working towards a trade that would send star closer Aroldis Chapman to Chicago in exchange for top shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres and more, FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports via Twitter. Sports Illustrated's Kenny Ducey reported (Twitter link) earlier tonight that Torres was scratched from the lineup for Chicago's High-A affiliate, and SB Nation's Chris Cotillo adds that Torres was indeed removed due to ongoing trade talks.

Curious what the other piece(s) are coming in that deal. Word earlier in the day was that the Indians & Nats were the front runners for Chapman, with the Indians having the best pieces on the table. Wonder if the Cubs are including a Jimenez or maybe Candelario in the deal. Would be a phenomenal get for the Yanks. Would mean they'd have some combination of: Gregorius, Mateo, Torres, & Castro in play going forward up the middle. If you're going to stack a position SS is the best place (that and arms). Solid chance Adam Warren could come back as he has been bad for the Cubs, but excelled with the Yanks during 13-15. Cubs fans are cracking me up on MLBTraderumors.com, panicking over giving up Torres for a "rental". Some of their fans are incredibly insufferable & are clearly more interested in winning the Prospect Olympics. They seem to forget you can only field 9 players, might wanna use some of these blocked guys for strengthening the bullpen you retards.

Seems like, in a rare moment of clarity, Cashman is actually doing a decent job handling this deadline. God only knows what Hal Steinbrenner & Levine's dumbasses will approve but Cashman, if given the "ok", should be able to parlay an early Chapman move into frenzy bid for Miller right before the deadline. Solid chance the Indians, Nats, or Rangers may panic & overpay for his services. Guys trade value will never be higher, get some young talent in return.

Chapman to Cubs looks like a done deal - just finalizing the players now.

10:13am: Outfield prospect Billy McKinney would also be going from the Cubs to the Yankees, tweets Sahadev Sharma of TheAthletic.com.

8:48am: Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports (links to Twitter) that the Cubs would send four players to the Yankees in the deal. In addition to Torres, former Yankees right-hander Adam Warren would likely return to New York. Jeimer Candelario, according to Sherman, is not in the deal. The trade has the approval of Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner, Sherman notes. Rosenthal tweets that the trade is in its final stages, and the players have been agreed upon.

JULY 25, 8:32am: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that if the deal is completed, there will be "much more" than just Torres and another prospect in the deal. Jorge Soler will not be included in this trade, reports Jon Morosi of MLB.com (on Twitter).

Sucks. Don't want one of my favorite Reds players to pitch against us.

Got really excited there for a bit earlier when the talk was Torres & Soler for Chapman.

Torres, McKinney, Warren returning, and the Crawford (toolsy outfielder who probably won't ever do much) throw in is a great get for Chapman. All the major scouting organizations (Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, MLBPipeline, Fangraphs, & Keith Law etc) all have Torres eventually being a really good hitter for average, with likely 15-25 hr power. May out grow short stop, but may be able to stay average defensively there. Worst case an above average defensive 2B or 3B with a really good bat. McKinney can't do shit but hit, but he apparently is a plus hitter.

Giants Acquire Eduardo Nunez - MLB Trade Rumors

Nunez to the Giants, decent little pick up. Guy was so bad with the Yanks, good to see him turn it around a little.

Deadline is very, very quiet right now. The Olney's/Heyman's/Stark's/Kurkijian's of the world are saying it's A) a poor trade deadline season B) Chapman's return shocked a lot of teams at what they may have to give up for non-rentals.

Royals said any team wanting Wade Davis will have to give up more than the Cubs did for Chapman. Now they're trying to throw Ian Kennedy in the mix when anyone asks about Davis, supposedly.

Jay Bruce has to be going somewhere.
Talk earlier tonight was the Reds, Dodgers & a mystery third team were working towards a Bruce-to-LA deal. LA wanted ship Puig off to CIN, CIN wants prospects though. Seems likely it will get done (too tired to find the link, sorry).

Yeah, Wade & Miller are going to be insanely expensive. Morosi reported today that sources have told him the Nationals would do a Giolito for Miller deal straight up. Giolito is the #4 overall prospect in baseball (Nats) and has front-line kinda stuff. Hope Hal decides to stop being a stubborn retarded and sell. There is no fun in being mediocre, especially in NY.

Thankfully, the deadline should dramatically pick up tomorrow.
