If he was smart he should have demanded the entirety of the deferred money be placed somewhere to draw interest and he keeps the interest.
By CBA rules the money does have to be placed in escrow. The only difference is the Dodgers get to keep the interest.

Posey mentioned that the perceived "safety" or lack there of with the city was absolutely a point of contention for certain athletes, and their families.

Also, to follow on Fight's post:

11. Regional sports broadcasting is dying a fast, and fiery death. All non-NFL sports will have to find an alternative that works.

Blackout rules are gay as fuck.

The perception really is so different than the actual facts. It's something else.

Baseball cities with higher violent crime rates than SF:

St Louis
Detroit
Baltimore
Milwaukee
Cleveland
Oakland (of course)
Minneapolis
Chicago
Kansas City
Houston
DC
Philadelphia
Dallas
Los Angeles
Phoenix
Miami

Even the homeless argument holds no water in Ohtani's case. LA has waaayyyyy more homeless. Not even close.

It's why I just laugh at the constant hate.

I mean whatever players' perception of particular cities is what it is. It doesn't necessarily have to jive with statistical reality if the players tend to feel a certain way about it in their little bubble.

The beginnings of paying Ohtani nothing.

Told you so.

We are here
Its not that its the Dodgers, its gaming the system that is put into place to keep the rich ($$$) getting richer (in talent) thus allows them to get even more richer ($$$) to continue to buy off talent at a price that isn't heavily punished enough, thus allowing them to bring in more FA talent to continue the cycle.

Positive feedback loop?

What is worse is that I highly doubt that this is going to be addressed as the parties involved are gonna make money hand over fist. Top tier players are gonna make a shit ton of money over longer periods if time, and the owners are gonna be raking in the money during the active portion of the player's contract, and paying out the balance with no interest after the player is done.
