Bantamweight champion Juan Archuleta tipped the scales at 140.6 pounds for his title defense against Kai Asakura (134.4) in the evening's co-main event, and as a result, has been stripped of the 135-pound belt.

According to a release from the Japanese promotion: "In the event that both parties reach a mutual agreement, a no contest rule is the likely scenario, which would result in the crowning of a new champion, contingent upon Kai Asakura emerging victorious. Conversely, should Juan Archuleta emerge as the winner, the bout will be declared a no contest."

Archuleta later revealed in a statement on social media that an illness prevented him from competing his weight cut.

"Sorry this happened nothing I can do about getting sick," Archuleta wrote. "I did my best to make weight and still step on the scale knowing I was going to have my title taken away. But I don't want my fans who pay hard working money to miss this fight. So I did my best and came up short."

can understand having to vacate the belt and be unable to win the title, but win and its a nc seems odd.

j jones had elbow surgery today, estimated recovery time 10 weeks, apparently was an issue for a while, so had it done while recovering from the torn pec.

Irish MMA fighter Ryan Curtis suffered major injuries during a training session.

Ryan has suffered a broken back, broken neck and dislocated spine. During this injury, trauma was also caused to Ryan’s spinal cord. The damage is classified as the most severe that can happen to a spinal cord. He was rushed to the Royal in Belfast and underwent emergency surgery.

Currently Ryan has no movement in his legs or his left arm. The road ahead is unknown and will involve at least 5 months of him in hospital, followed by a further period of time with a specialist spinal team. There is no exact end date to when this treatment will be complete

Dropped on his head during a throw with his opponent landing in him is about the only way to generate that much force. Suplex gone wrong, etc.

Besides the headliner, that has to be one of the worst numbered UFC's of all time. Dana is holding everything back for 300 and the September card in the Vegas Sphere.

There are actually some decent fights on that card. But I agree, not for a PPV event, more of a solid Fight Night card.
