Yeah, GSP losing would be a huge deal. Much like when A. Silva lost (The odds were similar in that fight too. Maybe even closer than this one iirc). Still, I would contend that neither of those are upsets because neither GSP nor A. Silva were heavily favored. It's purely a semantic argument.

That's one reason why I love the UFC so much over most combat sports promotions. There's zero champions I can think of recently that were ducking. Even though you sometimes get one sided fights like JJ vs Chael Sonnen you never see ducking from champions like you do in boxing.
Jones ducked chael on short notice.

Yeah, sorry but I hardly consider that ducking. If he had continued to refuse to fight him that is a different matter all together. He ended up fighting him once the fight was given some proper lead time.

Shut the fuck up with that proper lead time shit. It was a straight up bitch move.

Wow, some serious jimmies rustled here. So let me ask you what you think the definition of ducking a fighter is then, maybe this is simply a difference of opinions. For me ducking would entail going out of your way to never fight a particular fighter. I don't however consider it ducking if they refuse the fight on 2 weeks notice, but turn around and take the fight a few months later. This isn't a school fight at the flag pole after school. These are professional athletes who make specific game plans based on who they will be fighting.

Anyways, feel free to hold the notion that Jones was a bitch for not taking that fight. Agree to disagree!

Am I correct in assuming that Jones is just not going to fight at UFC 170 now and that his fight against Tex is going to be at a later date, and NOT that he's pulling out of the fight with him altogether?

And I don't get the "Jones ducked Chael" thing, I wouldn't take a last minute replacement for Hendo either if I held a belt. And he went on to fight Chael later, so it wasn't like he was afraid of fighting him, and there was the entire deal with his toe and the possibility that it could have resulted in a doctor stopping the fight (and losing the belt). There's a lot riding on Jone's fights, and he already takes on risk every time he steps in the ring. Why would he escalate that risk by taking a last minute replacement with no time left to train? Dana wasn't happy because they had to cancel the event but fuck it, that's the fault of Hendo's camp for waiting so long.

Yeah I consider ducking to be refusing to fight a particular fighter.

Stepping up to last minute fights or changes is a sign of being a badass. Refusing last minute fights or changes could be a lot of things ranging from hiding injuries, being unprepared/out of shape, being afraid, feeling disrespected or just being a pain in the ass to everyone.

Also lol @ JJ ducking chael. That fight was a joke.

It sounds like they are meeting in March now, but I am not certain. All he says is Jones won't fight on Feb 22, and will maybe fight in March. Very curious as to what that is all about though. Jones is probably just being a bitch and ducking Teixeira!

Edit: Just read another article.
The UFC president said that the fight would remain intact, but it would be pushed back to a later date, possibly as soon as March.
So they will still be fighting each other.
