The Bellator Kimbo/Shamrock event was tonight. All in all it was a pretty great event, ton of awesome finishes. But that main event...I can't stop feeling like it was a total work. Shamrock had Kimbo's back and had the RNC arm sunk in for a pretty long time but he wasn't puttinganypressure on the throat and started holding it really awkwardly like someone who had never grappled before.

Sounds like I'm not alone in this thinking.

Shamrock absolutely took money to keep that fight going just long enough to make it interesting before letting Kimbo up and standing til the big punch came.

From 3:33 on he had him like here

He had the right arm under Kimbo's throat for almost FORTY FUCKING SECONDS and didn't even wind him much less submit him or put him to sleep.

Maybe Shamrock is just so punch drunk these days it took him a while to remember how a rear naked choke works?

Surprised Kimbo didn't end his life though.

And to be totally clear, I think the event was ahugesuccess. Aside from the WWE match at the end the fights were almost entirely very exciting and had great finishes. They announced a massive event with a 4 man one night LHW tourney(Newton, King Mo, Linton Vassell, and Phil Davis) and a LHW title fight between Champ Liam McGeary and.....*sigh*...Tito Ortiz. Tito has vowed to bring the belt back to America...McGeary lived in NYC.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!!!! The event will have a cage AND a ring because it will also feature 4 Glory kickboxing fights, featuring Joe Schilling and Paul Daley "and more".

I was very shakey on the the direction Scott Coker was taking Bellator, but I loved this event and I love that event and I'm fully embracing them as the new version of classic Japanese Pride style events. Fuck yes.

Yeah we talked about it a little. I'm probably still in denial with my thinking that it's a good thing for him. "Oh he'll hone his skills in Bellator for a bit and make a strong comeback in the UFC!". As if he's shown any major improvement in his striking so far....*sob*...

Still, he should run through that tourney with easy.

Holy fuck I love Joanna Champion. Her TDD is amazing and her striking is surprisingly fierce for someone who weighs 115 pounds. I never even heard of her before the UFC, despite being decently familiar with a lot of the Strawweights from Invicta, but my god she makes this division fun to watch.

Joanna put on a fucking clinic today. Striking was beautiful but she's gonna have to start putting more power into the flurries if she wants knockouts. Her hits against Penne were totally quantity over quality against the cage, but I get the feeling she was doing it on purpose to "have a war" like she mentioned a couple of times.

Good fight but you could tell Penne was finished in the first round. Her take down attempts were so LAZY, Joanna didn't have to sprawl one single time. Always just had one underhook and that was enough to stop "black belt" Penne.

She's a woman. And a 115lb one at that. Just be thankful that she has competent striking.

Yeah, I know, beggars can't be choosers and all that. Honestly she looked great, just wish she finished in the first round after Penne was wobbly from a knee. I think she could get some great kick knockouts in the future but the hands probably wont get it done.

Yep, even Holly Holm has trouble knocking women out with her fists.

Honestly no woman is out there actually knocking her opponentsoutwith any kind of regularity. The fights just get stopped after a sustained beating like Joanna gives them.

Joanna was right, too, there probably isn't any woman in the 115 that can realistically put her in danger, I don't see Namajunes or PVZ changing that. She and Ronda are both probably going to continue dominating their divisions. Here's to a 2018 super fight between them both I guess. Maybe Ronda will retire as the 115 and 135 champ :p

Ronda fought at 145, there is more chance of Cyborg making 135 and looking healthy than there is of Ronda making it to 115 and not dieing in the process.
