I think I saw that fight outside the bar last weekend.

I feel like I'm losing interest in the UFC. Can't seem to get attached to the newer stars. I'm very curious to see if they can survive people like Anderson Silva and George St Pierre retiring.

But seems like I don't really care about anyone from the last 2 years or so who has come onto the scene. Maybe it's me.
The fighters are too professional now in a way. You won't see physiques like Tank Abbot or Roy Nelson come out of the new generation of MMA fighters. Ruins some of the underground appeal MMA had.

At no point have out of shape guys been a common sight at the highest level of MMA. Between Nelson and Cormier that's probably the most legit fat guys we've had in the top 10.

People always want to blame the thing(sport, games, hobby) when they lose interest in it. It's generally not the thing that changed, it's you. People change, there's no rule that you have to enjoy the same thing for your entire life. If you don't care about crazy exciting young champions like Jon Jones, Cain, or Aldo it's not because the sport is suddenly worse or less interesting. You've just had your fill of the sport, no shame in that.

There's a crazy level of young and exciting talent out there right now. The in ring action is as exciting as it's ever been. We just had a HEAVYWEIGHT contender win a fight with a spinning back kick. And the event before had another one. We've never seen fighters willing to take these kind of risks at the very highest level before, but now they are so good and so well trained they can go for it.

Is going to be fighting this guy

(yeah, that's a double flying knee)

In August. Both guys are only 26.

If you seriously need bigger personalities to make you care you either need to broaden your view to non-contenders like Chael/Roy/Bisping etc, or you need to accept that you care more about storylines than the actual fighting.

Yep, what Grimm said. On the heels of a pretty exciting event (one that I didn't have incredibly high hopes for), the consolidation of Pride and Strikeforce into the UFC, and the above mentioned young champions, this is a great time for MMA.

I think the problem for a lot of people is with the consolidation and new TV deals it can be easy to burn out if you are trying to watch every single event (especially if you include all the prelims). Personally I have a couple friends I trust to not spoil results for me so I can skip some of the events and just watch specific fights they tell me are worth checking out which keeps me from feeling like I have to sit down every Saturday just to watch UFC.

I'm not sure where to go with that fight. Tend to think any one who is not a wrestling gorilla like Lesnar will have trouble staying on top of Mir and NOT getting subbed eventually, but on the other hand Barnett has never really been subbed in his 16 years of fighting.

Yeah I guess I'm leaning towards Barnett by decision as well, mostly via wrasslin'....

You really see Mir lasting 3 rounds getting wrestle raped? o_O
Barnett is not an especially big hitter, he's probably not gonna club him in to a pulp like Lesnar. Barnett gets his finishes by submission. But Mir is an elite BJJ guy, and that includes defense.

Anything is possible, but right now I'm kind of counting on both guy's submission games to nullify each other.

We need a superfight bad. UFC feels like it's in a rut right now. Good shows and good fights but there is no sizzle to the steak anymore. Almost all my friends have lost interest.

How has barnett's cardio been generally? If it's good I can see him beating Mir. I feel like those two fighters will nullify each other.

Barnett's cardio usually isn't an issue. The guy fought against Big Nog a couple times in Pride and it was just constant action in a huge submission chess match. Some of the best fights ever.
