Marquardt looked terrible. And honestly Saffiedine was kind of disappointing with just how safe he played it. Once Nate started reaching down for the kicks I couldn't believe Tarec never opened up the offense more. Meh.
So the worst of us in the pool went 9/11 and got 4/5 boosts right. SF went out how they came in: Scheduling mismatches.
Agreed on Jacare's striking. But you know who else improved wildly that I hadn't really thought about? Pat Militich. At the end of the event I was thinking "Hey, I didn't hate him at all." He seemed to just get a lot better the longer he did the job. The bar for MMA announcer literally is "Did he annoy the fuck out of me?' and Pat has gotten over it for me.

Pretty sure Jacare was one of those guys already signed like Cormier. Scheduled to fight there in April, opponent determined by whether he won or lost last night.

Marquardt is the one that I'm sure was on the bubble. And getting dominated bell to bell like that(48-47 judge was a crackhead) can't have done him any favors.
No brainers to get a shot in the UFC I'd say are Cormier, Jacare, Mousasi, Luke Rockhold, Roger Gracie, Ryan Couture(last two based on name as much as performance), Lorenz Larkin, probably Tyron Woodley, and obviously Melendez. Lawler is already scheduled, same for Jason High actually. And bubble guys would be like Josh Thompson, Feijao, Masvidal, Noons(he's probably close to a sure thing), and Pat Healy. Josh Barnett is, as always, a wild card. He should be in but you just never know when him and DFW are involved together.

Yeah, but he showed absolutely none of that last night. I read so much about him leading into this fight looking great at 170, how strong and quick he was. But he looked like shit. He didn't come out aggressive at all, and by the 3rd he looked gassed. Maybe we will find out he was injured or sick or something. Who knows.It's unbelievable to me that anyone capable of doing this:

Nate wasn't aggressive at all, but a lot of credit goes to Saffiedine totally controlling the distance. Not just with the kicks but with punches too. He'd never let Nate get him cornered. And he used his height to control the clinch when Nate would initiate it. It was actually sort of like the Condit/Diaz fight in how he controlled the pace/distance the whole time. He beat up his opponent without ever having to really engage and give him chances to put it away.

I can't believe I went 10/11 and 100% on boosts and still only #7 in the pool!
Living in Germany is sucking for my ability to watch these events, I get all the major ones for free but they're shown live so that generally means waking up at 3-4am just to watch the main event. I guess I have to start downloading them.
