Accepted everyone, remember to download your Start Item Pack from the cat in your house under DLC/Gifts. It is a HUGE head start, I wish I did it sooner. Max/Ancient Pots, Traps, Flash/sonic bombs, the Mario/Luigi Palicoe costumes, and more.

Not seeing anything from the cat, you get something besides standard edition?

So I'm hearing good things about the new 3DS XL. The 3D is apparently vastly improved, and is worth turning on now. Anyone have one that can give me a run down?

My friend code is 0731-4748-3885 btw.

I have the new 3ds, but I did not have an old one - I've been waiting since they announced this model before buying. I can speak to the fact that the 3d is pretty awesome, and has a very tolerant zone to view it from - for example (my wife could view the 3d with me from above my vision as well as from the side(slightly of course). Monster hunter (the only game I have). Really pops in a good way - it gives a really cool sense of depth from target - and for the larger 2handed weapons I really liked that feeling. The second analog stick works - but I think I might prefer another full pad if that had been a choice. You could play with the 3D 100% on certainly from various reclining positions - as long as your hands are a stable distance and angle towards your face of course. The secondary shoulder buttons position is a little odd as its even futher around the edge of the DS instead instead of stacked vertically like any other controller design. However, if they do anything in monster hunter I do not know - and have not used them.

Edit: I added everyone to this point.

Anyone that have tried MH4U on both the old and the new 3DS? I'm a sucker for good performance so I am kinda waiting to hear if the new one is so much better.

Eh, unless there's some hidden graphic options or something or you really can't handle 3-4s loading times, the game doesn't feel like it was designed for the new 3ds at all. No problems with the camera (I have the camera controls on both the d-pad and the screen d-pad and it seems pretty decent, especially with lock-on. Lock-on would have trivialized the shit of the water stuff in MHTri hah. I'm about to try out the Tetsucabara to "unlock" the rest of Harth. Finished all the other solo missions they give you except an Urgent one that just popped up here, so probably doing that one first even if it looks like it is probably harder than the Tetsu. Just seems like a simultaneous release deal as opposed to being designed for it. I'm sure the camera takes advantage of the little stick on the right, though. But it isn't a big enough deal for me not having it to warrant a new 3ds purchase.

Well in that case, I stand corrected~ For me, it isn't enough of a change, but that is definitely different.

I got the new 3ds and gave my 3ds Xl to my 5 year old child. The issue is that she wants the new shiny golden one...=)(Majora mask edition)

I'm new to monster hunter but I admit that I'm enjoying it a lot.

The New 3DS has a built in 2nd stick for the camera, the old 3DS needs an addon for that capability but they have added the lock on button and software controls for the camera if you can get used to that.

The lock on only works on bosses, so still a pain in the ass for normal mobs

So I checked out the new 3DS over lunch and aside from the new 3DS visioning, not sure why Nintendo had to make this harder than it should have been for previous owners. From Switching ID's over to the new hard ware, being forced to acquire a new Micro 32 Gb Card instead of using my old one, different placement for power and stylus, no wireless switch (Not a big deal) and having to physically unscrew the machine to change out mem cards - one would think they would have gone in a more user friendly direction.

I am not noticing any reason right now to upgrade over my existing 3DS XL.

Zelda looked great on it though.

Played a bit with Big Reth lat night, was fun, except fuck Gypceros and his crest that has a shit ton of hp and even then has an ass % chance to drop his head.

I would highly advise anyone who is still in the early stages of the game to build a full set of Tetsucabra armor. Most skills are fairly not important early game, but Tetsu armor has +HP and Torso Up on it, so all you need is a single Health Decoration (easily craftable early on) and you get +50 HP, which in the early game is a huge leg up; as food will not provide you with +50 HP until later in the game.

Also, I am trying to figure out why the hell Switch Axe has three different paralysis axes.... I can't decide which one I want goddamnit!

Edit: also if you aren't usingKiranicoto help you plan out your crafting paths, you should be.

For anyone wanting to learn a weapon it looks like Gaijin Hunter on YT is worth while. I just watched their vid on charge blade and learnt a shitload, including that I won't be trying to master more than 2 weapons for quite a while given the level of detail you can get in to for combos and such
