Oh man the rare item grind has already begun for me. I didn't have any problems in Tri until very late game, but currently I can't even get 1 Brachy gem to get the tier 2 weapon. 25 Brachy kills and counting. Though I have been really lucky with Rust weapons, but I could care less about those currently.

It is really funny because my buddy that I play with often has 4 gems with less kills but he can't get the much more common Ebonshell to craft his armor. Damn you RNG.
Almost finished up with Bioshock Infinite so will be going back to this. Help me catch up Delly!

Where can I find high rank Arzuros? Need some stuff off him for Naracuga armor. There doesn't seem to be a quest for him until Rank 6 (and thats a double battle).

We'll see bro! Like I said my gem grind has killed my HR grind currently and I have a good amount of papers due with only a month left of classes.

Man - The guide book shows that 6 star offline has HR Arzuros and other than that its 6 star online.

He did show up as an extra monster once in the HR5 Naracuga fight, but the other 3 ppl just ignored him :>

Maybe he can spawn in the Harvest Tour for Misty Peaks.

Anyone play JUST the 3DS version? I work a 3 month stint in the middle of fucking nowhere (NWT Canada, 150 miles from the nearest town) over the summer, and was wondering if this might be suitable for eating away at what little free time I'll have. There is essentially no internet connection out there, if that makes any kind of difference.

No internet for 3 months? What the fuck man? Is someone threatening your life and forcing this upon you? Did they kidnap your family and are they demanding you do this self-torture in exchange for their safety?

God I hope you have a stockpile of games to play. This is a huge grindfest and will definitely take up a ton of your time if you do decide to get it.

Make sure you bring the new Fire Emblem 3DS game with you if aren't finished with it already.

Yeah there are a few good 3DS games you can play, but MH will definitely take plenty of your time. The single player experience is pretty good and will take lots of your time. You could even solo 'online' missions in offline mode.

I have around 105 hours so far, pretty much got to 'endgame' online. Still haven't gotten around to the last few missions offline. Still a ton of missions to complete and plenty of armor/weapons to make.

It's a shitty job that pays very well. A few times a day there might be slower than dial-up internet available, if the weather is good.
I picked up Fire Emblem last week in anticipation of my trek to the wilderness, and now it seems like I'll be grabbing Monster Hunter as well.

I was playing Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and it wasn't half bad either. I don't know how many hours there are, but it seemed like a good 10 hours of storyline if the chapters kept progressing at the pace of the first chapter.

Well I took a short Monster Hunter break after putting in 110 hours in a few weeks. Though I found some really big news, it might not happen for awhile, but the US will get a PC version of Monster Hunter.

Sorry for the necro-ish bump I got a cheap copy of Monster Hunter Tri for the old Wii earlier today, could any of the Monster Hunter veterans share some tips for someone who has never played this series before please?

i.e. Is it best to stick to one weapon type or learn a few? Follow the quests as each one opens up or "grind" for parts here and there to get new gear etc. It's a hell of a lot deeper than I appreciated going in, I'll do some googling before the weekend but there's usually someone around on here who has real play experience without being a gamefaqs Spergmeister.

**Copying and pasting what I posted earlier in the thread. Also whenever I refer to OFFLINE, just note that MHTri is permanently offline now since they took down the servers.**

Basically find a couple weapons you like and focus on them. Build them up and your armor up. If you try to build too many weapons you won't have enough resources to keep building on your strongest weapons. You want at least 2 weapon types you're good with.

Don't be discouraged if you fail or it takes you a long time to kill a monster, the majority of the game is learning how to kill the monster and then make a better weapon to kill the monster even faster.

Learn the basics of the gameplay and if you can learn some of the monsters OFFLINE. This will save you a lot of trouble and hassle online when you play with people. I'm not saying you need to know every monster, but get a general feel for the game, your weapons, some monsters, underwater combat, etc before heading online.

Offline has a farm, use it as much as possible. You can make honey and what not that fuels your potions. Plus there is a ton of other items.

Utilize websites like Gamefaqs, MH wiki and their forums, reddit, Capcom-unity, or whatever else to ask questions or find guides. Knowing is half the battle, if a monster is weak to a certain element, one of those websites will most likely have details. If you can't find out how to get a certain item, someone else has probably already asked.

Most of all, try not to be overwhelmed. This is a semi grindy game, but the grind is mean't to be fun and could easily bring you 400+ hours. So prepare for the long haul and enjoy the ride.

Armor skills are not always the easiest thing to understand. Armor skills require 10/15 points to activate. So say you have a piece of armor has that +3 to speed sharpener. If you get that whole set of armor the pieces will most likely add up to +10 to speed sharpener, which activates the passive ability.

If you have more questions feel free to ask away.

Thanks for that, fired it up today and played for a couple of hours. Already regretting not buying it when I grabbed the Wii last year as I'm going to miss out on the online part since the servers are now dead.

I keep running out of room in my pack due to me being a terrible hoarder apparently and not being able to resist farming every node I come across. Using sword & board for now and will also pick up Lance I think as that is also good at underwater battling.

Main problem I'm having is the camera, unless I've been retarded and missed a lock on I spend more time flailing around into thin air than hitting monsters for the most part >.<

Okay, Sandy Plains area 10, the so-called drop to area 11. HOW?! I just spent 15 minutes flailing around like a chimp on crack and couldn't find a way to drop down from the point it indicates you should use. I even found a Youtube video of someone on the same quest and he flails around for a few minutes before magically randomly hitting just the right pixel it seems. Is it really this difficult or did I miss an item you need to get to area 11?

Other than that, completely addicted atm. Hammering fools with my crazy huge hammer but can see the grinding ahead already for the next tier of armour.
