Monster Hunter combat seems sluggish (and that's being really generous compared to games like Bloodborne and Nioh) so I am not too worried about it, especially having played the demo in framerate mode already.

I wish that TV manufacturers had made good on their promises like 2 years ago to integrate Freesync into their hardware, because this line of discussion could finally die if variable refresh rate was a thing on consoles. Kind of sad that it's been a common thing on PCs for years now when PCs barely take advantage of it at all unless you're trying to run too high resolution/IQ on too low-end hardware.

I wouldn't call MH sluggish by any means, only other then maybe controls were kinda weak. Slower pace, yes. It's akin to Dark Souls vs Dark Souls 3. You wouldn't call DS1 combat sluggish.

I wouldn't call MH sluggish at all. Dual Blades, Hunting Horn and S&S are all pretty speedy weapons that require decent timing.

It's more akin to Dark Souls than DMC I suppose.

Going to be getting this on the X1X since that is what my friends are on. Hopefully it has the same options as the PS4 Pro. I'll take the higher frame rate at 1080 with HDR over 4k any day of the week. Hell good HDR at any res seems to be better than 4k without HDR provided you can read the UI.

Monster hunter combat is not sluggish. Its just hard animation locked. This makes it seem sluggish to many people, but it is actually just more deliberate of input. Many action combat games allow roll canceling and weapon swap/spam as part of their combat systems. These systems are "fast" because they allow for very rapid animation canceling. In Monster hunter the wrong button push and the monster is coming down for a big time punish. As you raise difficulty (up into G-Rank) they make the combat harder by making everything the monsters do animate faster. Openings and punishes are both smaller and more precise. Most people don't notice 60FPS at all, because they just don't care, or have never played at high framerates consistently in fast/action oriented games. Consoles just don't provide that consistent experience. But it does matter, and the more you play fast action games at 60FPS+ the harder it is to compromise to lower framerates. EX. Rocket League

Livestream going on in Japan right now. Volcano and Ice areas confirmed, Kushala Daora and Tesotra confirmed (and they have a Turf War). New large Fire Toad monster briefly shown. The monster beneath the corpse pile in the Rotten Vale Trailer is shown, face looks like a cross between a dragon and a xenomorph. Also Teostra has a Turf War animation versus Nergigante as well.

So how the fuck are we going to escape the giant Pickle if we can't zone out anymore? I remember the first time I encountered Deviljho and it was a scary moment. I'm glad they're adding big named monsters in the DLC, it'll help the relevance of the game among streamers and hopefully continue to increase popularity in the West.

I'm happy there are no more key quests. Was always a pain and my least favorite thing in every MH game I played. Having to do 3 other people's mission so we could all advance and if anyone failed there was a chance people would leave. Huge time sink. Good riddance.

I'm a sucker for login bonuses so I'm glad they stack and I'm glad they don't require you to login everyday.

Also a 3rd beta was announced on Jan 19-22 with a couple harder versions of monsters for all PS owners. Get rekt Xbox owners.

Kinda sad that there is basically nothing on the games radar for me this year other than Monster Hunter, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and God of War.

No, nothing to do with hardest. Some of the mobs in the trailer are harder than others, but don't think about difficulty. This game will cause you pain and struggle on random monsters that will likely just be your own personal hell. A few of them would be considered harder than average, or at least they have some punishing moves. I think that's just the storyline for the big title defining super beast that they are teasing. There is a nice array of models being shown.

Typically Elder Dragons play a big role in the end game and storyline, what little storyline there is at least.

"Hard" to fight is subjective but can change depending on your weapon and armor skills. Some monsters might just have your number while other fights that are hard for others seem simple to you.

Think I'm going to start off a gunner this time; I was a bit turned off from trying it in previous games due to needing a separate set of armor but now that's gone. Probably still try and keep a Switch Axe upgraded though, that thing is my jam.

Khezu was such a huge roadblock for me in MH2 back in the day. Fuck that monster.

Now then, were's my fucking Stygian Zinogre bastards..

And the Elder Dragons are generally not much harder, usually they just have special element attacks that are tied to them, a bit more HP, and can't be trapped at all so it's either a repel mission or a kill..

I'm wondering what there goal is for the monster count, if they're truly going to have the PC have all the DLC on release, will they continue to add monsters for PS4/PC after that as well? If the leaks are true (and they've been accurate so far) it seems like we may have around 34 large monsters at the PS4 release, which I think is the 4th lowest large monster count behind MHTri, MH Freedom, and the original Monster Hunter. Just as reference, the last three 3DS games had 73, 75, and 51 large monsters.

I have faith that they'll do it right because they've done a great job these past several years, but we haven't been below 50 large monsters for about 5 years.
