If the leaks are true (and they've been accurate so far) it seems like we may have around 34 large monsters at the PS4 release, which I think is the 4th lowest large monster count behind MHTri, MH Freedom, and the original Monster Hunter. Just as reference, the last three 3DS games had 73, 75, and 51 large monsters.

I have faith that they'll do it right because they've done a great job these past several years, but we haven't been below 50 large monsters for about 5 years.

Not being stuck on, weak hardware is gonna help immensely, from what I understnad adding *new* monsters into the 3ds versions was impossible, because of space limits. but fear the pickle bitches(please have Savage variant please please please)

While Capcom is known for that with the fighting games, Monster Hunter in the West has never received paid DLC from my knowledge. Though I wouldn't mind if the price and content was right, but that's always a slippery slope.

I don't think DLC will be paid, however one thing stood out to me in the new Gajin Hunter recap video. He said there were "tickets" you can get that give a chance to increase your zeny or loot rewards. You use them before a quest to give a boost...I can def see those being sold in a shop of some sort and I'm not sure I like that if it's true.

Frontier is a MMO though, and has been out for 10years this June. (tonfas please... man there fun to use but a pain at the same time)

The ticket thing won't be needed, believe me once you get too a certain point you can just farm minimal parts(usually plates/gems, rare pieces) and craft everything. Zenny becomes worthless after awhile.

You get them from daillies I think. Might be sold in a cash shop too although they did say something about no microtransactions iirc so not sure. The daillies can be stacked up to 5 if you can only play on weekends too, so you can just stack all your week's daillies and clear them on saturday without any loss.

hmm Frontier has a system like that too, you can't buy them though there only for daily login's.

Can someone tell me if this is going to be like a mega server or several servers? (ie. Do I have to pay attention to what server Im on to play with friends on the PS4?)

There are 16 player hubs. So technically a mega server and you can drop in and out of the hubs.

There are apparently all kinds of options to tweak how you group up with friends as this video shows, you can make your own private 2-4 person lobby and invite friends into it and you'll stick together apparently afterwards


Remember the final beta will be up on PS4 Jan 18th - Jan 21st

also for PC players who get bored waiting for PC release there is that game Dauntless which is a MH clone I guess? I dunno

Dauntless was pretty lackluster the last time I played, which has been a few months. Though if you were really jonesing for Monster Hunter it might fill the void temporarily.

As for grouping, you join a 16 player HUB but then you can join as a group for missions and then once you complete the mission you can choose to stay and hunt the other monsters there, gather resources, and just run around or you can go back to the HUB for the next mission.

Delly pretty much hit the nail on the head for Dauntless. It just leaves a lot to be desired. I would much rather play Monster Hunter on the PC but hell, I just dont care that much. I'll just rebuy it for the PC if it ends up being the next Skyrim.

Dauntless is a good fix, if you can't VPN to Frontier, or have access to a Chinese Resident ID#(MHO requires this).

I really miss the korean frontier version, not having too VPN was fucking awesome..

Bought it a couple hours ago. I was already buying the game and controller from Amazon JP, so might as well exchange my PS4 and get this instead.

This is a game all about fighting big monsters. You kill monsters, make gear out of them, fight harder monsters, make better gear. No character leveling, just gear progression. Aside from gathering materials and some inventory management its basically boss battles the whole time.

There are no traditional classes. There are 14 weapons that play differently each with their own movesets that act as your class.

The game is soloable or you can play with up to 3 other people. I would say playing with a party of 4 does make it a little easier due to the targeting system, but for the most part there isn't a lot of downside to either way.

There is another PS4 beta this weekend or if you have a Wii U or 3DS you could pick up MH4U for most likely under $20 dollars if you would like to see what it is all about, but Monster Hunter World is changing a ton of things so it won't play exactly the same.

Imagine it as a 1-4 player MMO where you basically get to fight bosses all the time. This game will also have a lot more quality of life additions compared to previous iterations which will be extremely nice.

I pre-ordered to arrive with a new xbox one x. Was going to wait for PC, but with no definitive date I had to bite back into the console life.
