Been trying to unlock the Augments and get the Rocksteady Mantle today by doing all the Optional quests I have in my log, but still nothing has popped. I've seen a few Optional quests which I've complete have a flashing exclamation point next to them, anyone know what that means (it goes away once I highlight the quest).

I think there is one more step because I have done all the optionals available and hit HR 48 and still no new ones popped up. I think I need to do expeditions/investigations and get a tempered to spawn first.

I'm guessing I am just kinda farm behind. I'm at HR59, still no Augment option, and the newest Mantle I've recieved was the Immunity Mantle.

Is there Xbox maintainence as well?

Slicing shot just got nerfed into the ground, but most other ammo (normal/pierce/elemental except dragon) got buffed to compensate.

Looks pretty cool, but I've never played a MH game before. But, from what I've gathered so far, the point of the game is: kill monsters to get better items to kill monsters to get better items to kill monsters X infinity. Is there no end game? No goal? Is this a correct synopsis? I'm in a drought right now for game enjoyment and thought this could be fun to try.

You've got the loop right, but there is really much more to the game than that. Using different weapons changes the gameplay quite a lot, and there are a lot of mechanics under the surface that, when you toy with, provide a long list of min-maxing potential. Exploring the zones and hunting is also another fun dimension. Yes, you ultimately get used to the zones, but they are also layered and complex and reveal interesting secrets over time.

I personally feel like this is a game with a lot of hidden or incidental depth that you can access to further enjoy the game or extend your playtime.

I've also never played a MH before and my main gaming bro HATED this game during beta and refused to play. I took a winger on getting it and I've been thoroughly pleased.

Personally, if you like (a) killing monsters, (b) exploring, (c) crafting shit and (d) playing online co-op with randoms or friends - well, the game is worth it.

Once you see him go up you can flash pod and he'll drop or you can strafe left or right without rolling and you'll never ever get hit.

I have no idea honestly, I'm just watching the HR80 sword and shield streamers and copying them. They're melee is pretty much twice mine so I know I was doing something wrong. Its pretty crazy how good those veterans aim and time their special moves. I only have the Nerg SnS and the Theotra one currently which does really good fire damage so far with that elemental setup.

I'm going to build the ice sns I think. Following dear dellys recommend.

Patch notes for the lazy ones.

Release Date

PlayStation®4: February 9, 2018 (UTC)

Xbox One: February 9, 2018 (UTC)

Required Space
PlayStation®4: Approximately 82 MB

Xbox One: See system for details.

- Downloading this update will also apply all previous updates for players who are updating the game for the first time. (PS4: About 930 MB of space required; Xbox One: See system for details.)

Major Changes
PlayStation®4
  • Fixed an issue where the error message "Failed to retrieve squad information. Please wait and try again." would appear and squad features would not be usable. However, as a result of this fix, players who were affected by this bug will have all of their squad data reset. Additionally, players in squads whose squad leaders have their data reset will also see any affiliated data disappear the next time they log in. We apologize sincerely for the inconvenience, and ask that you reform squads or reinvite players whose data are lost.
  • Fixed an issue where, rarely, uninvited non-squad members could join a Squad Online Session, or squad members could not join one of their own. Squad Online Sessions can still be joined by players outside of the squad via friend invite or Online Session ID search.
PlayStation®4 and Xbox One
  • Fixed an issue where some players could not claim the item pack "5 Million Celebration Item Pack". The availability for this item pack has been extended to February 22, 23:59 (UTC).
  • Fixed an issue where, under certain conditions, decorations would be lost.
  • Fixed an issue that occurred when selecting items with the "Sell Items" option (from the item box inside base camp tents) by hiding the decorations tab.
  • General changes were made to bowgun ammo.
Increased the power of Normal Ammo (1, 2, 3), Pierce Ammo (1, 2, 3), and all elemental ammo (except Dragon Ammo).
Decreased the power of Slicing Ammo, and reduced the effect it has when hitting other players.
  • Reduced the maximum number of Slashberries you can hold in your item pouch from 60 to 30.
Players can still use any remaining extra Slashberries if they currently have more than 30 in their item pouch.
  • Readjusted the Elderseal calculation for dragon pods.
  • Fixed an issue where information on endemic life would disappear from the Wildlife Map when moving about the field.
  • Fixed an issue where the assignment "Flying Sparks: Tobi-Kadachi" would not appear on the quest board after departing on a different quest in the middle of speaking with the Chief Botanist just before the quest is first assigned.
  • Fixed a rare bug that would cause players to lose control of their characters when completing a quest with certain start menu sub-menus open.
Other Changes
The update will also include various minor bug fixes.

Seriously how the fuck do you get Wyvern Gems. I farmed Barroth for 2 hours and never got a single one. I've never got one from anything. Ever.

Huh I have like 8. I trap a lot though. Are you using traps often?

Btw I finally got my Teostra gem... by melding it with the weekly quest -_-

I'm sure you could meld a Wyvern gem pretty easily?

Seems Monster Hunter World shipped 6million copies already, less than a month after release(they announced they had shipped 5m last week too so it seems they had to ship more so the amount sold should be pretty close). Fastest selling Capcom game ever from these numbers.

I always trap.

Melding gems is always grayed out for me. How am I able to craft it?

You meld gems using certain tickets you get for doing weekly quests and other optional quests. If you go to the guy where you manage investigations, and look at the limited time bounties, those are the rewards you need. I think they are called Wyverian Tickets. The top stuff needs the gold ticket.

On the plus side I can clear out HR Barroth in like 3 minutes now.

Finishing up my affinity set today and my guard lance set. Next is my elemental set. Not sure if I want ice Longsword or Ice SNS.

I'm just going to do every element / tier 8 SnS. Looked up the weakness chart last night and this is the total counts of monsters weak by weakness level.

Weakness level 3 (Total count of monsters very weak to element) 5 Ice, 5 Fire, 10 Water, 7 Dragon, 8 Thunder
Weakness level 2 (Total count of monsters slightly weak to element) 11 Ice, 7 Fire, 7 Water, 9 Dragon, 10 Thunder,

I'm only going t min max for my hammer. Everything else is just going to be for variety. But I will spread it out across the spectrum to ensure I have something for most situations. I crafted the Teostra badass looking HBG today.

Xeno is absolute AIDS to do with the hammer. I can't stand that fight using the hammer. But its ok with the bow or HBG. For example. Might be moving back to bow for the ranged option as I am shit with the HBG at the moment too.

Once I finish one last Kirin HR tonight Im done and going to work on Dual Blades for most of tonight. Hopefully we farm some Theostra and Kushala for those fire and ice daggers.

Elements are a PITA though for SnS and DB because you need level 3 fire / ice attack etc in order to min max. I already have Fire and Thunder Attack decorations but also need to grind the others out.
