well its complicated.
one element. the moon is really far away from the Earth really. Any media that has the Moon being shattered, like the timemachine. most of the debris would just spin out into orbit, like a halo, or asteroid belt. some would fly away. a tiny bit would eventually come at the Earth. but it would be rare and small.
Along those same lines. the moon has the effect on the Earth it does.. that far away. The moon getting closer would have major effects on both, long before it actually got anywhere near the Earth proper.
slow orbital fall. yeah, the moon would probably be torn apart, and end up an asteroid field. would still fuck up tides, and earthquakes/magma flow.
fast pushed out of orbit towards Earth. bad news. again tides, earthquakes, magma, volcanos. Humans would probably be dead before it made it half way.
an actual impact. yeah. all life death. Atmosphere and water would be tossed out into space. it'd take 100's of thousands of years, or more for it to be pulled back in. Bacterial life in ice "maybe" survive. the effect of mass change on the Earth itself would fuck things up. as well, as potentially pushing the Earth itself out of orbit.
