Mist you should sponsor me in MTGO. I've got top 8s under my belt at PTQs but am too cheap/lazy to build a MTGO collection.
Sorry, I live off that money. I don't have spare tix enough for constructed decks, and I doubt you're better than me in sealed, and draft is a fucking money pit even for pros.

Ob Nixilis, Unshackled printed in M15 => Fetches are coming in Khans.

QED.

Yeah because 6 drops are printed as an 'answer' to lands that matter on turn 1-3.

Your logic would be better if Leonin Arbiter or Aven Mindcensor was in M15.

Draft is situational - if you're solo it absolutely is a money pit - it's easy to screw with them easily with a group on teamspeak/ventrillo/etc colluding though I can guarantee. Wife and I after finding out "It's not considered collusion unless both accounts in the draft are on the same credit card" from an ORC did that in a single draft and put together the most nuts draft decks ever with just two seats taking both decks to the finals in 8-4 (so 12 packs for 4 tix invested and 6 packs opened) without even breaking a sweat. I don't like doing it and only did it as an experiment because I think that rule on collusion is ridiculously stupid but clearly it's an option for people and probably with more seats the profitability would rise as well. (Although there's no doubt a sweet spot I'm too lazy to math out depending on the prize format)

It still can't be that good, and I wouldn't take a couple events as a strong sample size.

Sealed on the other hand has some of the weakest average players on MTGO, and one of the better prize structures.

If you really wanted to play rigged 8-4s without getting caught you could just ghost streamers, and even then the payout isn't that good.

The high price of fetchlands did not catch WotC by surprise. Fetchlands were already above the price threshold for a reprint. What caught WotC by surprise is the spike after GP Richmond. The most compelling reason for a fetchland reprint is that WotC needs a hit set after the cool reception that Theros block received and fetchlands would all but guarantee a hit set.

Mist, what makes sealed better value than draft (8-4 queues) on MTGO?

Sealed Dailies you only have to 3-1 to get your packs back and most of the time your pool should be worth at least the 2 tickets it took to play. Sprinkle in some 4-0s and you make 5 packs of profit plus your pool. If you go 2-2 you lose a draft set however. In the normal sealed queues the level of play has historically been lower than other formats on average so if you're a decent player your win rate should be a bit higher than normal.

What he said. You also never have to worry about passing cards you open in order to try to win the event. You will always get to keep at least 6 rares/mythics. And people are just fucking bad at sealed. Most of the people playing sealed are playing it because they just want to open packs.

Yep, in v3 I sat around 1750-1800 limited because of sealed and I don't consider myself exceptionally gifted in construction in sealed. (am quite precise in play though)

Hard to say for v4 though since its hidden now. (might be bottoming out though, my recent luck has been horrendous)

On another note, will anyone be at PAX Prime this year and playing Magic: The Gathering? I figure I'll be doing a few of the standard and limited tournaments.

Cascade Games might be doing their prize wall thing that they did at GP Portland. It actually worked out pretty well. Basically you win tickets from winning their events and can then trade those tickets for prizes. So winning a five round tournament is either two booster boxes or 720 tickets. 720 tickets will get you a foil sheet or a bunch of other things. You can also save tickets up for big prizes like an Unlimited Black Lotus (2100 tickets).

I haven't touched MTGO in years, but it looks like they removed leagues? (If that's the right name, the sealed events where you could play your matches any time within X days.) Why would they do something like that? The #1 reason I, as an old MTG fanatic, would be more likely to play Hearthstone than MTGO right now is the ability to play whenever I want. I don't have a schedule anymore that lets me set aside 4 hours for playing an online tournament, especially not if half of that time could be spent waiting for the next round.

Are there any tournament formats in MTGO now that allows you to play whenever you want?

Leagues will be back in this year, after 5 years of people begging for them to come back.

Not really disagreeing, but fetches were "modern reasonable" up until Richmond. Also, Theros has still sold like gangbusters in spite of a relatively boring standard. I'm having an admittedly hard time finding any good pickups for next rotation, though.

What are other people going to hit, out of curiosity? Master of Waves seems pretty obvious, given its price right now.

Also looks like Cascade Games has this?PAX Prime Planeswalker PackageI don't think the $300 thing is worth it, the $150 one might be. That said, entry into a tournament where 1st through 4th get sets of Modern Masters is nice...
Either package would be very tempting. I'd probably get more value out of the $300 one actually; plus getting a MMA set just for going 4-1 in M15 sealed seems like great value. But I know if I signed up for these I wouldn't see any of the exhibition hall. I'll still probably try to hit up a chaos draft sometime over the weekend.

I did the math and the $300 one isa bit weird, you pretty much have to play Magic the whole con to get close. At the same time the "surprise" perk might put it over the top. I'll likely end up doing it since most of the important PAX panels are streamed anyway and I want to play games.

In terms of specs I'd say Master of Waves is a decent pick, same with Stormbreath and Xenagos. I'll also go out on a limb and say Ajani Steadfast is a good spec target. His abilities are good, what puts him over the top in my eyes is the single white in his casting cost. In a wedge set that will likely have tricolour mana bases a single mana symbol is extremely relevant.

Urbog+painland used twice equals shockland?
??

If Urborg is in play, your pain lands can be tapped for B without taking damage at all. You CAN still tap it for B and taking a damage. Otherwise, Urborg is irrelevant and tapping a pain land twice for colored mana does deal as much damage as a shockland...

Like if I play white black. And I have 4 pain lands in the deck. And 1 Urborg. By the time I draw a Urborg would the damage I take from my pain lands at that point make them as effecient as a shock land?

If im playing Orzhov control with Liliana Vess would it make sense to use her search to get my Urborg?

Im still really new to this game and land math is fucking confusing. I dont like the feel of the way some stuff plays but I read that its better.

Like scry lands feel so slow. If im just playing white black would mana confluence or temple of silence be better if I have Urborg.
