This is the one that LOST, arguably the best of the bunch. But I will hold a place in my heart for the quadruple Embodiment of Spring deck that splashed double white for wrath.

Siege Rhino about $10-12 now, and that's with a slow auction and dozens of bids. Buy it now playsets are over $50. People laughed when I said it'd pass $10. Told you so :p. I also called Pearl Lake Ancient, but that's not rising so much, but still. Siege Rhino will go up another couple dollars, just watch. I said $12-14. I don't know how nobody saw how amazing that card would be. It's ridiculous. psh..$1.99, ha!

Siege Rhino x4 Khans of Tarkir Magic MTG Mint Card | eBay

I've made quite a pretty penny buying all the Dig Through Times, Siege Rhinos and Riders with my 15% discount on singles from coolstuff before the price rises. Dig Through Time will be $25 in a couple years.

Siege Rhino - Khans of Tarkir Singles - Magic The Gathering

Edit: Troll and Toad sold out at $12. And they place cards at a lower price when sold out, to buy them cheaper.

Now everyone can pretend they knew it would be this good over at MTGSalvation haha ^^. The original spoilered thread is 95% accusing it of being mostly junk.

Mist,

Talk about Embodiment of Spring. The initial and now overall consensus at the store I play at is that the card is unplayable. The few times I've had him I thought he was just fine but I'm vulnerable to peer pressure.

It blocks 2/xs and morphs for the first 4 turns, then can block+sac to absorb a hit against any nontrampler in the mid game. Then you have your colors, and then you win.

Having 4 was AWESOME in that deck with 2 Death's Frenzy. I would play out 2 of them, they would put down a bunch of 2 drops and morphs to attack wide past them, and then I would Death's Frenzy and 3 or 4 for one them. That happened twice.

After watching a bunch of tourney streams lately, I'm of the mind that players who shuffle their hand 47 times per second, non-stop, should lose the match automatically. FFS, take some Valium you fuck. STOP MOVING.

I saw that when you mentioned it... sucks. I bought just over 3 playsets at $1.99/ea (so $1.69 each with my discount). Actually shoulda been $1.49 ea as that's what they were when I ordered. Perhaps some people realised the card would jump in value and they were being greedy to wait and see. I feel vindicated though. I knew a 6 point life swing 4/5 trample for 5 would be a powerhouse. 6 point life swing is nothing to balk at.

Siege Rhino has an incredibly boring name. It sounds like a common. I'm not surprised that it jumped, but it was pretty easy to overlook.

Literally 0 people were saying Siege Rhino was not a powerhouse.
And that's why it was $1.49-$2.49 for a long time, and that nobody agreed here (or over on mtgsalvation, except for a few rare cases) that it would hit $10?? Go read the original Siege Rhino spoiled thread. The card was overlooked by the vast majority, otherwise people would have been talking about it more, rather than all the Mantis Rider talk. Twas overlooked, which I'm glad for $$$. It was even under $4 last week, do "Powerhouse rares" go for $1-3 dollars often in your universe?... Don't bullshit.

It wasn't overlooked, but Rares very rarely get that high these days. It's the Loxodon Hierarch of the set - obviously powerful, but requires a very specific deck that hadn't been proven yet.

Every rare in Khans is destined to drop in value. All of them. Yes, even that Dig Through Time/Siege Rhino/Mantis Rider/whatever. If it isn't a foil and you're not using it, your best option is going to be move them asap. Khans is still very early into the "opening packs" phase of things, and will be the only set on shelves until what, January? Siege Rhino will be back down to $5 in a month. It's a tri-color build around rare, not a multiple deck all star. None of those tri-color cards are going to stay very high. There just isn't enough demand for them all, and it'll only become more obvious once Fate Reforged pops up.

Sylvan Caryatid on the other hand, is going to remain quite high. It's the Thragtusk of this rotation because so many decks make good use of it. Rattleclaw Mystic will stay low for the next year as a result, until probably becoming an important mana fixer after Theros goes away.

Exactly. It's the same curve for any other card that appears in a tourney winning deck.

Also, Sarkhan is still up near $40? JFC.

Yeah. I've still got one in my binder I need to unload fast. I'm tempted to just buylist it. This always happens with fall sets. Remember the massive price inflation last year on Theros? Khans is even worse, since the lands are actually worth something. Back at release scrylands were crapped on pretty hard and only worth a couple bucks. Khans boxes are at an estimated value of something like $175 right now, which is just ludicrous and unsustainable.

So Mist, you said the 8-4 tarkir draft queues are full of morons right now? I've been thinking I need to start playing magic online since I want to try a bit harder to go 'pro' at magic. I'm practically unbeatable at my shop FNM/prereleases and recently won our elite IQ. Planning to hit the invitational in march in Roanoke, and I'm getting more serious about playtesting, but the few other good players in the area aren't available as often as I am. Seeing McLaren do so well recently without a team, just testing on MTGO, has made me realize I've been making excuses for not trying to take it seriously.

Then, you mention the +EV on tarkir drafts currently and it got me thinking I should really be taking advantage of that to build up an online collection.

I do agree that most will drop. I disagree that Dig Through Time will be one of them (at least in the far long term).
