Omfg.... Is that real? I've been waiting for a video of this for years and years. omfg omfg. Absolutely insane. I can't even believe it. It must be real I remember watching his videos in the past. Wow. So cool that this is finally documented. So awesome, because that guy loses a lot of money doing what he does for the viewers, as do most vintage people on youtube. Good for him, this video will be watched for decades.

Mtgstocks.com doesn't have many data points for pricing on the Alpha Lotus. I wonder how often someone buys a single card for $10k.

Umm, it's way more than 10k. Which helps me to determine that you don't know Magic and you're above comment about Siege is even further void.

Boy I remember when I started playing Magic they used to have 2 Alpha Lotus's in the case for $300 for months. Ugh...

Christ they're up there now? And to think I traded one in lightly used shape for a case of The Dark back when The Dark was new. (They were listing about $500 back then, it wasn't a bad deal..... theoretically)

Guy at my shop that has something like a 4 digit DCI number (signed up on first wave from an ad he saw) was playing during alpha. He vividly recalls making trades like his shivan dragon for a lotus and a couple 'crappy' dual lands. For the first few months/first year of the game, people just had no clue how to play. No one could have predicted magic would get as big as it is has. When I first started, black lotus were between 300 and 500, depending on version, and I thought that was super expensive as a 15yr old.

Yea, I think I was maybe 18 at the time, was like ok, a case for one card I didn't even use. (I didn't like it, so it had been on loan to my female friend until we were at a party and someone offered her the trade and I said "why not"...)

Forget if it was Alpha or Beta technically though - just remember black bordered. (I know my Jet was alpha that I lost in Ante - and Sapphire was Beta)

I definitely remember trading Shivans and Force of Natures for revised duals, and I have a 7 digit DCI number. Duals were 5 dollars for a very long time, then held at 20 for a long time.

I remember seeing a Lotus for the first time, in a case for 130 dollars, I think it was already that high when I started playing. I remember the very first time I went into a card shop looking for boosters, I saw a Mox Jet and a Mox Ruby in the case for 40 dollars each, and thought that was a lot.

I also remember picking up my 9th Force of Will out of a case for 5 dollars, because it felt like a good idea at the time.

I was asking if anyone had known or confirmed a sale. You can list something at whatever you want but was inquiring if it had actually sold to a collector.

I should know better to get into a pissing contest with you. It's really important that are the smartest ccg player on the forum.

I too have a 7 digit DCI number. I bought unlimited starters from Waldenbooks at the mall after reading about the game in Dragon magazine. In the inital glut of ccg's I traded 20 packs of On The Edge (look it up) for a Sapphire and Jet. It was the wild fucking west.

We used to play in this hole in the wall comic shop and I vividly remember a guy who played some sort of red burn deck with power would rubber band his deck and put it in his pocket when he was done.

Man, I really liked On The Edge.

I started during that glorious Fallen Empires, Homelands, 4th Edition era. It truly was a Golden Age. After the release of Homelands it was nine months until another set was released. That set was Alliances. It had three rares that were on the rare sheet six times instead of two times (Uzra's Engine, Whirling Catapult, Sol Grail) so while it was full of good cards you would just get fucked pack after pack after pack. The outcry over Chronicles and it's huge print run lead to the reserved list, a decision that is still impacting the game.

It's really a goddamn miracle that Magic didn't kill itself in those early years. The player base had multiple die-offs during Revised to 4th, during Tempest when Ice Age, Alliances, Homelands, Fallen Empires, and Chronicles all rotated out of Standard at the same time, during Black Summer, and then a goddamn pandemic during Combo Winter. I might not like how expensive the game can get but the cards continue to be interesting, the flavor is good, and I feel like there is quite a bit of room for a filthy casual such as myself to have a good time.

I don't remember ever actually playing a game of On The Edge. I still have all my Jyhad ... ahem ... VTES cards though.

Jyhad is pretty shit 1v1 but its multiplayer is top shelf. I know probably a dozen people that still really like that game and have their cards.

I've never played it 1v1. Anytime (which is rarely ever) I've played multiplayer MtG, I try and bring in the victory point/attack to your right mechanics as a way to try and stomp on kingmaker effects. Garfield sure knows how to design games.

Ahh, the good old days of the CCG wild west. In addition to MtG, I got into Heresy: Kingdom Come and some comic book / superhero thing.

God those Heresy cards were beautiful, shame they deviated from the standard form factor and the lacquer/card face chipped like a motherfucker with even just light shuffling. The game seemed fun from doing Goldfish tests (since of course no-one else ever got into it).

Fuck fuck fuck, double flooded out in round 2. What a waste.

Too bad Windswept Health is 3 tix on MTGO.

PS: Rakshasa's Secret is actually amazing in this format, don't tell anyone. I wouldn't ever play more than 1 really, well, maybe 2 in the right deck, but it's free if you have Delve cards to cast that turn, and people almost always hold cards in their hand so they can use their mana to morph instead, allowing you to snag 2 good cards frequently. Even if they discard land in the mid game, that's land they need to turn on their morphs so you win either way.

Man.. downloaded mtgo and tried to play some games with the free cards you get. I've never seen a less intuitive interface except maybe for the previous mtgo client.

Anyone have a link to a good tutorial about the functionality? Preferably with keyboard shortcuts and whatnot?

The only keyboard shortcut anyone ever uses is F6, which passes priority for the rest of your turn.

Netrunner, Jyhad, Magic, hell, even Battletech's initial set-up was good, except for the dice. The expansion derpsign team did a pretty good job of wrecking it, adding even more dice-reliant shit.

Is there any reason why the U/B lists at the pro tour that were running Pearl Lake Ancient weren't using Whelming Wave?
