My two brothers and I were seriously considering buying a beta lotus and eventually all p9 to just put in a safe for investment purposes but after talking to a couple SSG venders at a GP and other fellow geeks who are business savy, they recommended we instead put that same amount of money into "alpha" (revised) duel lands due to play ability but still decently rare enough.

As of right now we have a full playset (40) of mint revised duels chilling in an airtight container in my brothers safe. Who knows if we keep going with it but its nice to think about regardless.

Duals are necessary for legacy, and while the fundamentals of that format aren't as strong going forward as modern (WotC supports one format, and doesn't make a penny off the other), it has remained sufficiently popular to keep the market going. Hell, legacy is practically responsible for the value of foils all by itself.

There will eventually come a time when duals are rare enough that people just can't meaningfully enter into legacy. A lot of standard players jump to modern for that very reason, but we're not yet to the price points of vintage. I'm not moving any of my duals (haven't put a full set together since returning to the game, but I'm up to 30), and I plan to keep snagging more.

When Moxes were $30 when I started playing, they were standard "FNM" tournament prizes at my LGS. They were all over the place, literally. So crazy... When my LGS went out of business, I'd just started playing EQ and traded a bunch of my Mox's/Rishadan Ports/Legacy stuff such as Cradle (thousands upon thousands of dollars of MTG now), for like 3k in platinum in EQ. FML.
Ouch. Yeah, all of my stuff went into Warhammer and Warhammer 40k models when my friends swapped games. I had a full Weissman "The Deck" for Type 1, minus the Lotus and I think 1 Mox. All duals (this predated fetch lands), Library, 4 Mana Drains, Juzam, 7 of 9 power, etc. Absurd value these days, and even then it was well over $1000. I really miss that stuff.

The ones that I miss more are the cards that were junk back then and have skyrocketed since. I used to have a couple Tabernacles just sitting around doing nothing, same with Bazaar of Baghdad, LEDs, etc. It took later set mechanics to really make them into real cards. About two years ago I unloaded my last "big" cards when I sold 10 or so Wastelands and a set of Forces at DragonCon to pay for some home and car repairs. I figured since I hadn't played in over a decade, it was no big deal. Then I go and get back in...

I had a "The Deck" as my Type 1 for a long time. So did a lot of my friends. We all put in little tweak cards. I even ran Chimeric Staff as my kill card for a while.

I was really big on Serendib Efreet back in the day with that deck, mainly because it was easy to cast and bolt-proof.

For as much as I loved MTG as a kid, I will never understand what went through my head to make me sell it all off. I think it was just a matter of me not having much money, and it was my one resource to jump into a new game with all my friends. Really should have thought better of it.

Hell, I don't even know what happened to my Urza's Saga stuff. I bought an entire box to run a draft after senior year and kept the cards after, but they never turned up. I know for certain there was at least a Cradle in all of that.

I bought my first car off the back of a set of Arabian Nights. The game definitely had highs and lows in quality so getting in and out was so common back then.

Some guy at my local FNM was playing a Black Lotus. It was a just a group of 30 + year olds playing vintage for some reason. They acted like they were big shit. lol Pretty sure I saw some pieces of power as well.

I love the sentiment of 'ITS A FREAKING CARD GAME." Yeah asshole it is. Except that whole you were at a tournament with fucking cash prizes and you outright cheated people out if it. You simpleton fuck.

I'm sure the "it's just a card game" argument goes over really well with the people you beat in the top 8 and finals. Yeah, I cheated to get here and I cheated in our games and the prize money that I won is being donated to charity so you don't even get your fair winnings but c'mon, I'm just human what's up with this four year ban?

He's acting like he's going to jail for 4 years rather then banned from playing that same card game.

Bertoncini got 3 years? It didn't seem like it was a full 3 years since I saw him putting up results.
