Bertoncini's ban is a new one He previously had one for like 18 months or whatever. Trevor was stationed here for awhile some years back and there were a number of people that thought he was shady then but there wasn't ever any firm proof of it. This kind of shit is infuriating. It's theft really.

Jared Boettcher is also extremely likely to receive the banhammer. I am super disappointed because it was kind of nice to see someone be that "good" at Magic and put of those kind of results, but statistically it was highly unlikely simply due to variance.

I love the sentiment of 'ITS A FREAKING CARD GAME." Yeah asshole it is. Except that whole you were at a tournament with fucking cash prizes and you outright cheated people out if it. You simpleton fuck.
Wow my blood was boiling reading his whiny little post. "It's a freaking card game"? yeah? With massive cash prizes that you basically stole? How is this any different from fraud leading to theft and grand larceny? Like that guy that lost his prize pool but still walked away with a set of p9, worth considerably more? He won that through fraud, aka theft, aka it's a crime. You cheated to steal massive cash, fuck you, hope you never come back. Wow, just wow. The simple fact that you can get away with this shit because of the loop hole of it being a card game and whatever is astounding, it's still fraud and theft imo, felony level. You steal someone's bag at a tournament, with a P9 in it, police are called, you get caught, you go to jail. You cheat so badly that you force yourself to win money + a p9, you get caught, you get an 18 month suspension and you keep the stolen 15 grand in cards. Loopholes man, loopholes. No wonder these fuckers cheat, it's like being able to rob a bank with the only risk being that if it works and you get caught, the bank won't let you come in and rob them for 2 more years.

At first I was like - ehhhh, but there are so many examples of the shady land float at the top. And it was always land. Always.

edit: twitter response to him that made me laugh, "Dude I watched 2 videos where you're 10/10 moving a land to the top PLEASE teach me I'm not even mad just impressed"

Kind of disturbing that he probably would have never been caught if he stayed away from starcity.

The guy who works the desk at one of our LGS played in the draft to make it an even number. Store pays for his packs. Foil Sarkhan. Of course he did.

Played in my first Modern FNM today.

PlayedNorin The Weenie (Standard MTG Deck)

I thought I was going to get smashed but I did pretty well. Went 2-3 and never dropped 2 games in a row. Won games against Pod, Storm and smashed mono red burn and Jund. Pretty fun stuff.

It was fun to win some games against big expensive decks. I Don't think I had a decent draw all night till my final match against burn. I mulliganed to 6 almost every fucking game and I down to 5 multiple times.

2014 World Championship Format Change | MAGIC: THE GATHERING

The 2014 World Championship, which takes place on December 2, 3, and 7 in Nice, France, will be undergoing a minor shift in which formats competitors will play on which days.

On Day One, players will compete in three rounds of real-life Vintage Masters Booster Draft followed by four rounds of Modern. Vintage Masters booster packs will be generated on Magic Online and physically re-constructed for this event.

On Day Two, players will compete in three rounds of Khans of Tarkir Booster Draft followed by four rounds of Standard.

The Top 4, which takes place on December 7, will be played using the Standard Constructed decks that the players used on Day Two of the event.

The Event Information page for the 2014 World Championship has been updated with this information, and competitors will be notified of these changes today.
Surely testing the waters or preparing the ground for a future Vintage Masters set.

I posted this on QS a little while ago :

Things that suggest MM2/a non standard set in 2015 :

1. Modern Masters was only released in English. Many significant Modern cards have never been printed in Chinese/Russian/Korean/Portugese/Japanese not to mention Spanish/German/French/Italian not getting MM.

2. Wizards are ramping up their promotion of non Standard formats. They make no money out of that unless they print cards that can be played in non Standard.

3. Second set in current block has been moved from March to January. Third set has been moved from May to March. More than one effect with this :

i) This years financial results (2014/15) are going to be up an extra set. This will put significant financial pressure on the following year (2015/2016).

ii) There is presently only one core set and one block set (Blood) scheduled for the nine month period from March 2015 to Christmas 2015.

iii) There is presently only one core set and two block sets (Blood and Sweat) scheduled to release in the financial year 2015/16, whereas one core set and four block sets (JOU, KTK, Fate Reforged and Louie) will release in financial year 2014/15.

When you look at the evidence above there is a significant time window May-June. May 30/31 2015 there are simultaneously 3 GPs taking place in Europe, NA and Japan. Then in June there are three Modern format GPs on successive weekends.

2015 PRO TOUR AND GRAND PRIX SCHEDULE REVEALED | MAGIC: THE GATHERING

Of particular note is the three transcontinental GPs on the same day end May. It's been announced it's Limited and also that there will be a big special announcement about it before the end of this year. Helene Bergeot : "We're trying something different and we want to make sure that it's on everybodys radar". "Put that date in your diaries because there is going to be something awesome".

Pro Tour Magic 2015: Announcing the 2015 Organized Play Schedule - YouTube

The weight of evidence is enough for me to believe that a significant non Standard product will ship in 2015 and that it's likely to be MM2, to the extent that I am planning for it financially. I believe that the print run will be larger than MM and that we will see 'Modern Limited' at both PT/GPs and FNM. It may not be called MM2 and it may feature a higher percentage of new cards. Of course none of that may be the case, but that's what this branch of the hobby is about - speculating.

This is wrong. They're doing the opposite. With the new changes to the Pro Tour and PTQ formats it definitely makes a much less emphasis on modern than there was in the previous 2 years. All they've done is allowed eternal formats into FNM, which isn't so much promotion as it is an outlet for certain small percentage of stores that don't want to play standard.

It really doesn't change much except allow stores to switch up their Fridays. Almost every store around me runs at least modern one night a week, and some also have a legacy night.

I do think Flight is right in that they're trying to monetize modern a bit more directly, rather than making it an archival format. Legacy is still handcuffed by the reserved list, but it wouldn't surprise me if they try to figure out a way around that when it makes financial sense. Recent modern reprints have proven that you can print high dollar cards without crashing the market. I'm honestly surprised they ever closed the judge promo loophole. That seemed fairly clever.

I agree. Here's an article by Ben Bleiweiss (Star City Games) about WotC getting a group together to re-assess the reserved list the last time they changed their policy :StarCityGames.com - Insider Trading - The Cost of Cards: Mr. Bleiweiss goes to Washington (Part 2 of 3)

He is one of the most clued in people in the world on the market and pricing and he agrees with you and he also thinks they should drop the reserved list.

If they make new cards for the Vintage draft they are already breaking their reserved policy.

They said "reconstructed" from the online boosters, so many they will have proxies or second hand cards.

I can't tell if this deck was terrible or good, but I won with it anyway.
