Oh it is Golvellius: Valley of Doooooooooom! The few screen shots I glanced over were from the side scrolling portions of the game, so I discarded it too fast. I should have noticed the gigantic mop of green hair!

As for zelda clone on SMS/MSX I also missed Golden Axe Warrior which seem to be a pretty sweet game.

Yep! Had Golvellius well before I ever touched Zelda. Never did have or play Golden Axe Warrior until I could emulate it much later on. I still put Golvellius over Zelda (8bit at least). Better graphics, better music (and much more), and IMO more boss challenge. Blew me away when the music changed each time you got a new sword or shield.
