Monta has had one efficient season out of the seven he's played. Dudes don't just magically change who they are at 28. Guy sucks. You'll see that soon enough.
Just because theoretically he'll be taking less shots doesn't mean he won't still chuck up the same shitty shot selection. We don't need to argue this now, it'll be obvious in a few weeks.
Check the stats. He shot the exact same % he's shooting right now for his entire 3rd season and still averaged 20 ppg. He was like a 3rd scoring option on that team though when they had Baron playing his best ball ever and Steven Jackson playing pretty well also (as you well know). To me the deal with Monta is that his efficiency really dropped after his moped accident because he just wasn't quite as explosive when he came back and wasn't getting as many easy fast break points. When he's putting pressure on the D with his quickness first and not settling for the jumper too often he's an asset, but the last few years he'd been leaning more towards chucking jumpers early in the shot clock. I will say I think his selfishness is overrated. He makes a lot of good assists for a 2 and he's been on some pretty poor offensive teams the past 4-5 years. Doubtful he can keep this shooting % up all year but I could see him having a solid season under Carlisle.
Just remember this in two months when Monta is shooting 42% and taking 4+ threes a game.
