Does anyone take ESPN seriously enough to put stock into their made up metrics?

I was once a fan of Lebron from a purely talent standpoint but Gaige has soured me on the man. Sadly, I think he is the norm for Heat fans.

Excited to be done with tanking and back to watching some decent basketball coming out of Cleveland. My overly optimistic thought is that everyone stays healthy for once and the Cavs grab the 6 seed. Kyrie Irving entering his third year is gonna be sick.
Cavs officially eliminated from the playoffs tonight. WELP.

Frankly they don't deserve it. Fucking Eastern Conference is so pathetic. Should just seed the top 16 teams from the entire league and be done with it.

Pacers bench doing what they Heat starters can't, win games down the stretch. Maybe Miami is tanking so they can avoid getting the Bulls or Nets in the second round.

So I didn't catch the Heat game tonight. I can only assume they lost because the refs fucked Lebron over?

It's a strategy: they lose a lot of matches at the end of the regular season to be super hungry for victories once the play-offs start. Yep.

It was ridiculous. 10 times Lebron was absolutely mugged and there was no call. One of them was even on a free throw!
He was fouled while shooting a free throw?

Cant believe the refs didnt call that one

I'm not putting you at the same level as Gaige but comments like this are pretty fucking homerish too. The Heat are 6-4 their last 10, the Pacers are 3-7. Suddenly the Heat lose two (to two potential playoff teams) and the Pacers win one (against the worst team in the league) and one team is performing better "down the stretch"?

Damn it, Slaythe. I really needed Minnesota to beat Chicago last night to give Toronto a cushion for the 3 seed. Of the "tough" games left, Raptors have 2 games against the Knicks...Bulls have 1 against the Knicks and 1 against the Bobcats.

Raptors beat Wizards in 1st round, Pacers in 2nd, Nets in East Finals...then, after being eliminated in the West Finals by the Clippers, when Durant starts mentioning again how Toronto was his favorite team as a kid...to save the ratings for the Finals, Adam Silver pops on the screen and says, "I'll allow it" and the Durant-led Raptors defeat the Clippers in 7.

Woohoo!!! Oh man, it was a great ride everyone. Thanks for being here with me. See you all next year.

Further proof of the ridiculous bias against LeBron in the NBA.

The stretch started Tuesday.

There was a reason I put tough in quotes. The EASY games are Milwaukee/Detroit for the Raptors...and Detroit/Orlando for the Bulls. So, in comparison, the other games are tough. Point being that the Raptors might need to go undefeated the rest of the way to keep the #3 seed.

Fuck the eastern conference, for realz. Should just retract all the teams except the Heat and Pacers, and even then...

It's an absolute joke that one of Dallas, Memphis or Phoenix won't make the playoffs. All 3 teams playing so well down the stretch.

Phoenix should miss out on the playoffs on purpose. They've been a great story, but they still need talent in a bad way. If they miss playoffs, wouldn't they automatically move up in the draft by like...seven positions?

It depends on how Chicago and Toronto finish, but purposely going from 8th to 9th in the West would probably move them up about 5 spots in the draft and possibly 7 if those two teams lose 1-2 of their final 4 games. It also would give them a small (1-3% iirc) chance at a Top 3 pick. Whereas if they make the playoffs that chance is 0.

There are serious upside players all the way through the lottery this year too. I'm calling it now though. Flip is going to draft Doug Mcdermott and I'm going to slit my wrists.

I have been a major proponent of the top 16 teams getting in regardless of conference so I decided to see what would have changed in the last few seasons. To my surprise it wasn't much:

06/07 - Clippers tied with Orlando for 16th seed, Orlando had a better division record. 8 WC, 8 EC
07/08 - Golden State and Portland take the place of Philly and Atlanta. 10 WC, 6 EC
08/09 - Phoenix in over Detroit. 9 WC, 7 EC
09/10 - Houston in over Chicago. 9 WC, 7 EC
10/11 - Houston in over Indiana. 9 WC, 7 EC
11/12 - No change. 8 WC, 8 EC
12/13 - Utah in over Milwaukee. 9 WC, 7 EC

I know that this doesn't take into account playing more games against weaker divisional opponents, but how do you work all schedules to be fair outside the 58 home/away games played against each other team in the league?
