I have to say its a pleasure watching this Bulls team play right now. Hopefully Thibs doesn't murder them all during the regular season with excessive minutes.

Watching the Spurs move the ball around is mesmerizing. I don't expect to win this one, I just hope that we're competitive though.

Any Kobe apologists able to defend his play this season? He is leading the league in scoring!

This talk about Kobe sent me browsing some NBA stats and made me realize something that surprised me: How come Ray Allen is a free agent? You would think someone would be interested in hiring his daggers... but maybe not at the price he asks?

iirc he only wanted to play for a couple of teams (Miami and Cleveland). His base salary would be pretty high with his veteran minimums and he can't do a whole lot at his age outside of jack up 3's.

He's not going to go just anywhere at this point. He probably doesn't want to play through a whole 82-game season, either. I'm sure he has had offers...just nothing that looks intriguing enough to him yet. I wouldn't be surprised if he joins a contender in January.

Ray Allen is probably pulling a Roger Clemens and plans to sign after 1/3 or 1/2 the season has gone by.

Kobe is shooting 38.6%, down from his career 45.3%. Unfortunately this is a problem that feeds on itself - the worse the team the more he takes bad shots. Some try to work both sides of the argument though, calling out Kobe for too many FGAs and in the next breath talking about how the Lakers have no good players.

The Lakers in truth have a pretty awful team but nearly everyone else is playing more efficient offensively when they do get shots. I can understand Kobe's mentality but he's just not the player he used to be.

To play devil's advocate for Kobe - Jordan's numbers in Washington (on similarly terrible teams) were only marginally better. He shot just over 41% his first season there but still jacked up 22 shots a game. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd expect Kobe's shots to come down a bit (currently 24.5 a game wow haha) and his % to end up around 40 at least. Actually, if you look at Kobe's TS% through 12 games, as bad as he's seemed at times, it's higher than Jordan's was for that entire first season in Wash. Not saying it's a good thing in either case, that's just how the greats do it I guess?

And you know what, in the end they're giving a lot of the fans what they want to see. The Lakers are going to be terrible regardless, so a lot of Lakers fans are probably fine just seeing Kobe jack em up all night for old times sakes. Why else go to a Laker game now?

Kobe hasn't been a super star for almost half a decade. He has the skills to be a good team player ala the other old stars (dirk/duncan/ect), but he doesn't have the mentality to be anything but the super star. He's basically dead weight for any team at this point with his play style. People have been saying that for a while, its just that its gotten really really obvious now.

Mavs on the other hand look so good. Considering how pieced together their team is, they are gelling extremely well. Dirk is the epitome of the style of player you want in a declining super star. He helps his team in so many ways. Not selfish/moves the ball, even takes pay cuts to help build a team that wins. Total class act. Maybe we'll finally beat the fucking spurs again this year.

I'd argue that Kobe has never been a super star but Pharazon would then get mad so we don't have to get into that.

Monta has played well through a dozen or so games. I don't expect him to keep that up.

Kevin Martin out indefinitely with a wrist fracture. Our top 4 players are all injured... sigh.

Eh? Monta was great all last year - Carlisle and Dirk put him great position to play to his strengths (driving to the basket) instead of taking bad jumpers. Pretty sure he led the league in points per game off drives to the basket last year.
