Homerism is the worst part about sports. Abdication of rational thought shouldn't be lauded.
Cleveland has some of the biggest homeristic(?) fans in all of sports. We haven't won shit in forever. Rooting for our teams is completely irrational, and detrimental to your health.

Rooting for your team no matter what is loyalty. Abandoning rational thought when talking about your team is homerism. If you root for the Browns even though they've been horrible forever, that's an admirable trait. If you try to say that Manziel (Irving) is a Top 3 QB (PG), that's homerism.

I enjoy watching Rubio but come on, he is hot garbage.
I'm not sure what this means. My assumption would be you're looking at his awful shooting % and making this determination based solely off that? He's been a plus defender his entire career (which is what my comment was referring to specifically, his defense being better than Kyrie's...because it is). Otherwise, the on/off stats with Rubio are staggering. The team simply plays MUCH better with him on the court.

The problem with him though, is just how hard is is to build a team around a PG that can't score. We'll see in a couple years when we're actually contending for the playoffs, but I have flashbacks of teams sagging 10 feet of Rondo. I don't know if Rubio can be a playoff winning PG because of that, but he's good enough to try I think.

"Hot garbage" isn't the term I'd use. More like "solid starter."

What I mean is that he is bad, he stinks, reminiscent of garbage of the hot variety, perhaps the sort about to catch on fire.

But yes, he gets steals and he's fun to watch. I enjoy him immensely.

Spurs on pace for 69 or 70 wins. Still 3 games back. On quite a roll though, 9 in a row!
Thursday could be a great game. After last nights OT win over Dallas I'm really looking forward to seeing how we match up with the Spurs now that everyone is healthy and clicking.

Warriors finally have some good games coming up. Next two Mondays have the Cavs in Cleveland and the first Spurs game of the season. Then the first week of February has OKC.

LBJ and Kyrie were not good in the fourth quarter. Sucks. Spurs are so damn good. They need to lose games. Especially with the Warriors collapsing at 36-3.

Chris Paul nearly halfway to John Stockton's career assists total.

Just a decade of even better performance to go.

On that topic, I'll eat a ton of crow when it comes to Westbrook. I was never a big fan and always thought his chaotic play style took touches that should have been going to Durant. I also didn't think he'd be able to keep up that amazing tear he went on at the end of last season. Dude is a stud and putting up another MVP level season through 36 games.
I was riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I enjoy watching Rubio play, but once the Wolves develop some of these young guys he's got to go. He's as bad as DeAndre Jordan shooting free throws. Throws up air balls, and bricks not even close to going in. Sometimes he avoids taking a wide open shot (for good reason) and creates a turnover trying to force something. I wouldn't call him a great defender; he's good at getting steals, but the guards quicker than him get way too many wide open shots. I'd love to see Zack Lavine develop along with Wiggins and Towns, and they could be a great team.

He shoots 82% from the stripe. Is that where Deandre is at now?

Seriously, all you have to do is look at the on/off court stats over the course of Rubio's career to tell the impact he has on the court. We have over 200 games of reference to show teams play significantly better both offensively and defensively when he is on the court. He's 16th in the entire league in RAPM this year. That puts him on the same level as most All Stars as far as net production while on the court.

Beyond that, as someone I promise that has watched more of the Wolves than anyone else here, I simply shrug off any anti Rubio comments as extremely uneducated opinions. You're either not watching actual games or you're looking at his shooting % and making the assumption that someone shooting 35% can't be a good basketball player. There is a lot more to NBA basketball than points, especially if we're talking about players that orchestrate their team's offense.

The real criticism of Rubio, which I've already made, is what happens in playoff basketball when teams decide to just sag off him. Maybe thats too big of a liability in that atmosphere, but I'm going to give one of the best floor generals in the game a little more time, especially considering there are zero other realistic alternatives. LaVine isn't a PG. We're playing him there to speed up development, but he's awful with the ball in his hands asked to do anything other than score.

If the Warriors play like they have the past couple week or so they are gonna get steamrolled by the Cavs on Monday.

I was referring to Rubio's field goal %, his free throw shooting is fine. I think their field goal vs. free throw percentage is fairly competitive. You must really listen to those 'homer' announcers if you think Rubio is an elite player. He's the best player on a bad team. Our other options are just so bad they bring down the team average immensely. Rubio passes up 10+ open shots/layups a game because he can't put the ball in the bucket. That's huge! The team meanwhile, struggles trying to get these open shots that he continuously passes up. He brings us from worst in league (without him playing) to what, tied for 4th from worst, so I guess he does make us a better team. Best player on a bad team. Never going to go anywhere when you're playing 4 vs 5 because one guy can't shoot, especially when it's the guy handling the ball. But I agree our other options are just that bad. No one can create shots like Rubio. Lavine can create his own shot inconsistently, but he's so raw he still shoots left handed layups with his right hand (seriously wtf) and tends to turn over the ball. Wiggins just drives madly to the bucket until it's too late. Someone's gotta score points even on bad teams. Wiggins could be great, but he really needs further development. It's sad because Rubio is so talented, even though he can't shoot, he can still make the Wolves fun to watch. He'd be an all-star if he could shoot, but as is he's average (A+ passer/creator, but F at shooting).

So you're comparing Rubio's fg% with Deandre's free throw %?

I agree calling Rubio possibly the 4th best pg in the NBA is crazy, but what a bizarre way to go about it
