I made a point of watching the NBA playoffs last year. I've been very outspoken against the NBA, so maybe hypocritical of me or maybe there is value in seeing what I had been deciding to miss. Either way, was just meh.
Had to ask my girlfriend who is not into sports who was in the finals (confusing both of us). It was that memorable.
Some fun individual players to watch, for sure. Some decent team ball at times, but mostly not. And I'll acknowledge the players are more athletic than ever, playing faster when they aren't being lazy, etc, so in theory in many ways the game is technically better than ever.
But it's just, like, who cares.
Maybe the players were always rich and entitled, too. It just feels different. Maybe that is the difference. Jordan era players were rich and entitled and living the dream, but it didn't feel like they were rubbing it in my face like it does now.
I'm okay with people living the dream and enjoying the riches our society offers, even if they seem ungrateful, but don't turn to me and lecture me on my place and my obligations and my "privilege" and all that shit.
Like somehow telling me I'm bad for simply existing is necessary to justify their place at the top of our society. That never needed justified, imo, so don't use me to justify shit they're feeling guilty or uncomfortable over.
OMG but muh platform for change! I'm a victim of the racist system! I have to change the system that benefitted me to justify my being benefitted!
Fuck you. You play basketball for millions of dollars; maybe just focus on finding the courage to run up the court, LeBron!
The game may even be technically better, even if it's not to my preferred tastes, but the NBA and the retarded players are objectively insufferable cunts that deserve failure.
