The game had a lot of potential ,but it was ruined by F2P. Also, the devs decided to nerf mechanics that made the game better instead of embracing them, and tailoring the new encounters with them in mind.
It would have been like if the EQ devs decided kiting, or FD splitting wasn't in the games vision, and leashing the mobs so they wouldn't respond like they did originally.

If the players find a new way to play a game you didn't think of never punish them for that.

Otherwise the leveling was quick, the graphics were pretty damn good, the combat was fun, and the itemization was fine. Sad such a good game was ruined so quickly.

Why can't the reward be the experience of playing through a mission someone else spent time creating?
That is an idealistic thought that unfortunately doesn't appear to have a place in the reality of modern gaming.

I played this game at release and tried it again after it had been out for a year. There were several player made modules that you could tell were made by old school pen and paper players. They put a lot of time and effort into creating them and trying to make them immersive by including lore, a story etc. Many of these were so extensive they took over an hour to complete.

You would think this made them popular and praised (especially the ones well written) but in reality it just got most of them ignored. Players rejected them in favor of the mindless, hack and slash dungeons they could speed run in 15 minutes to get credit for the daily quest.

Did they ever fix the GWF as far as making them wanted in a group. I solo'd to max during "Open Beta", and never hit an actual group required dungeon, because no one wanted a GWF. Hard to keep me interested past the week I played. Plus that was during the crazy AH fiasco that allowed everyone to have, (if I remember right), the special cat pet.

Graphics were good enough, combat was fun for a bit, but became annoying with all the red danger zone warnings. Guess I'm not into action combat. Loot was just a never ending stream of crap, followed by more crap. I think in a normal day, I replaced all my items 2-3 times, right up to cap.

Two months ago GWF was pretty much the best class, did awesome damage and could tank just fine. Pair a GWF with CWs and you didn't even need a proper healer for most of the content. The tanky guardian was almost ignored by powergamers and the rogue was good single target, but lacked AE damage. Ranger was a good class, but brought nothing special to the group.
I still check it from time to time, it's a game that I use to play a couple hours here and there, with a friend usually as we jump around from game to game looking for some variety.
I like action combat a lot, but in NWO the red zones were sometimes not matching the real effects, meaning that you could get hit by standing outside the zone sometimes.

F2P is definitely being extremely annoying: serverwide announcement when somebody loots from p2open chests are fucking disturbing, bag space is few and a large bag costs 10? or some shit like that. Same for getting followers that can be leveled up to 30, and the boring daily grind required for currency which is unfortunately quite important to have etc. etc.

As Greedy as perfect world-Cryptic the biggest thing I am dumbfounded by is the lack of classes.
More classes = more Revnue cash spent in the cash shop and more players new and old playing and coming back etc.

I mean the should have entire team of devs doing nothing but working on classes don't mean the current classes, I mean new classes instead of slowly at a snails pace releasing 1 new character every 6 months they should be releasing 2 characters at a time till they get caught up for a FTP Shitty Cryptic game it would not be that bad if they had like 4 more classes already to bring the total to 10 there be more variety, I do realize they have to build itemization for all the new classes, as well as skills, spells, animations, builds pve, pvp, hybrid but still.

Game needs at least druid, monk, shaman, warlock, paladin, bard just to name a few.

They announced that Scourge Warlock would be introduced with their 4th Module next month:News - Neverwinter - ArcReally are taking their own sweet time when it comes to adding stuff for this game
Started playing again and the amount of stuff to do now compared to launch is insane, they also seemed to smooth out the questing/XP. Started playing again and really looking forward to level 60+all the stuff you can do at 60. Fun dice game for companions on the gateway as well.

Neverwinter is coming to Xbox One! - Neverwinter - Arc

The news comes on the same day that it is announced that Xbox One will go on sale in China on September 23rd...with Neverwinter as one of the titles that is pre-installed. Kind of odd that it won't make it to the western world until 2015, but this could be a huge advantage for Neverwinter in the Chinese market.

yeah. logged into this today for giggles. I think it was the Dragon age, DDO multiplayer discussion.

Wow so much added to the game. I am completely lost. And yeah, that web based die game, tied to in game stuff is great.
I really like that. the web interaction. crafting too.

No idea where I should be starting to check out the new content, and dungeons. ha. lots of cash store stuff though.

I've been playing this recently with some friends. It's a lot of fun, and I like that the endgame content is based on 5 man content instead of needing to rely on 15-40 other people for raids to get things done. For those of you looking for a fun and free mmo, give this a try.

Last I played was a few months ago and there a few things I didn't like much, keep in mind my highest char is a 38 ranger.
Maybe you can help me, because I find the combat quite fun, but what is extremely irritating is that past level 20 or 25, identification scrolls drop a LOT less. So I'm pretty much forced to sell shit unidentified or purchase scrolls with some currency I have to fork cash for. Is there a way to circumvent this? I already spend money on 2 and often 3 games at once, this I'd like to play for free, but if I can't even identify gear, it get s quite boring fast.
Also I keep finding a ton of augments and they make me run out of room quite quickly. Is it worth to keep them in the 20s and 30s or should I just throw them away after I stuff some into my current gear?

Never identify items that you won't actually wear (red colored stuff). Identifying an item only increases its sell value slightly, and the only time gold is ever a problem is buying your level 20 mount on your very first character. Past that, you will be swimming in gold with nothing to spend it on, the only currency that matters is astral diamonds.

At level 22 or so, you should have gotten a quest for your first artifact. That's a good place to sink all of your extra enchants / runes into while leveling. Rightclick your artifact and choose refine, then feed it all the extras to level it up. Artifacts were added in some expansion patch, so depending how long since you've played, you may have to go do the quest (see sergeant knox).

You don't need cash for astral diamonds. Astral diamonds come from doing daily quests or the hourly events then refining them, salvaging level 60 epics (not relevant to you yet), selling stuff on the auction house, or the leadership profession. Also never ever buy scrolls from the merchant. You can always get a much better deal buying them from the auction house from other players. That said though, with my previous advice of only using id scrolls on your own classes gear, you will get more than you need from drops.

Expansion isn't out yet, it releases on the 17th. I know the expansion is changing a ton of stuff, but honestly I've not been following it that closely, so it's going to be a learning experience for me on patch day.

no, last 2 modules killed the game really for most players. was hoping that this module would be a nice reset of the overtly stupid p2w systems implemented in the last 2 modules but it's just more of the same.

One thing this game does right is action combat. everyone (especially developers making games) should play it for that.
The thing this game does wrong is literally everything else. steaming pile of McFreemium shit that this game is.

Fury of the feywild, Shadowmantle and Tyranny were pretty fun gameplay-wise for me, my friends and I enjoyed the progression. I did skip the icewind dale and tiamat ones so can't speak to them. I couldn't care less about the pay-to-win arguments, i have been able to get everything i have wanted in game, with a little work, without spending a dime.
