Either way no matter what you have stated above as you slurp the Nvidia down, their marketing is shady as shit, their products are severely over priced, and their bang for their dollar is ratios of negative value. And all these marketing buzz terms are as about as useful when they showed Hairworks. The fact someone has to pay $1500 for a display and video card (Aside to the PC itself) to run 4k gaming at 60 FPS is fucking ridiculous in this day and age. And Nvidia only does so because they have zero competition and have suckers chasing their latest next benchmark gamer score which has no real life meaning in games post 60 FPS min. Next gen without competition are they going to start the 3080 at $999? Why not keep pushing that bar is idiots are willing to shell it out for performance gains they might well not quite possibly even visualize when playing the game.

from what I can tell there's an overstock on the 10 series so they're keeping inventory limited on 20 series up a bit and 10 series will have a deep discount, they want you specifically to buy their glut of 10 series cards because of the same gpu mining that you don't want to think about affecting the market.

nvidia told vendors apparently to sell the 10 series overstock before they'll get resupplied.

And i personally feel the smoothness difference between 60 fps and 144. Maybe some don't, but me, I definitely do. I can't really put it into words, but it just feels cleaner. So yeah. I'm happy i spent the money on it. I know it's a fucking lot of it, and I absolutely wish it were less, but I'm still happy with the choice.

10 series cards because of the same gpu mining that you don't want to think about affecting the market.

What does that have to do with actual MSRP? I do not care what the artificial inflation was. What is the card comparison worth at MSRP. If anyone was dumb enough to buy a card during the mining inflation they deserve to pay $800 for a 2080 to replace their 1080ti and gain 13 frames per second while both are already over 100 in BF1.

No I am just trying to understand the mindset. With that PC config, with most if not all of those games hitting post min 60 and most likely well over 90, why would you shell out 800 for an additional 15 fps over 90, while knowing we are in a state of common denominator development and shit ports for PC these days to take advantage of any of the new hardware, much less their inability to even catch up to even having HDR support, where the market stands today?

I mean money to burn and a fun hobby sure, or chasing the benchmark high score - But for others, for gaming versaatility and value, what good is it going to be having this advertised horsepower when you will NOT see the results in PC gaming due to shitty 3rd party ports, or hell, flat out ports from the latest gen console with a few tweaks that don't take advantage of anything you have for horsepower regardless.

What good is it doing having a 100k engine in a 72 Ford Pinto which will hold me to 45 mph?

I can agree there. And I'm not sure if/when I'll even worry about buying the 2080ti unless I can spare the change to do it or something happens to my 1080ti causing it to fail. But maybe not everyone is jumping from the 1080 up to the 2080. I see the comparisons more of "here's the old best, compared to the new best" to just put it in perspective, and if people dont have a 1080, they can make the call to spend more or not for that difference, and something with more capable tech for future games. But I know they jumped up massively in price too because of mining. The tech market has always been doing stupid shit on price gouging, even dating back to when I was doing builds for a new EQ rig. When prices on certain hardware just changed from one month to the next by random/stupid amounts due to shortages, real or fabricated.

But there's always people who shell out cash for the newest product with minimal improvements. Look at the yearly Apple products and their fanbase as an easy example to take a jab at. New phones are all pushing $1000 it seems like, and they replace them even more frequently than video cards.

Tarisk so what I think the discussions should be centered around (Not here but everywhere) should be points to assist in those with purchasing decisions. Do I need to upgrade? Will there be any noticable effects aside from seeing numbers higher on a spreadsheet? With today's games and knowing PC gaming today, and even more so in the future, will be relegated to the power of whichever console hits the +50 Mil mark first, we have a fairly good list.

Why doesn't this move? Because PC development is stagnant. And has been for a while. Hell, I bet I will be able to come here in 2020 and bump this thread and this same small chart up above will be true.

2080/2080ti with a new anti aliasing development kit developers will be charged (licensed) for so they won't develop for it for such a small target base compared to other platforms they just released their game on, and any other (Insert here) marketing gimmick, on the same course, at a card double the price?

Buy a used card to upgrade, and we quit feeding these idiots selling over priced cards which they know will not even have the software backing to make anything they "Claim" have a real world effect while playing a game regardless.

I agree with you on Apple obviously as well. Consumers need to wisen up. It's gotten to the point of retardation now. And while prices inflate, we see less and less development into innovation to NEED better hardware and without that we don't invest in new computing technology for anything else other than games and communications.

I view PC Gaming / GPUs being upgraded less frequently as a good thing, and a result of being more tied to consoles (because most games are cross platform) which is another good thing.

PC gamers today can spend $100-$200 a year and keep their systems in a state where they can run any game they want. Last thing I bought was a GTX 970 some four years ago. Using $200 a year as a metric, that'd give me $800 to spend on a new GPU and a 4k monitor.

History repeats itself really. And funny enough it's with the same franchise.

And... 5 years later.

With the added benefit of now Ray Tracing will come in a post launch update and while the devs make up a scapegoat, it's running sub 60 FPS with it on in 1080... a month from launch.

And Christ that's the 1200 card. At least we didn't have to pay that much to see hairworks flop back in 2013.

I think it's gonna be at least a year till actual Ray Tracing works correctly...(I haven't look at the API document for the new Nvidia chips) but actually using stuff like this requries time for it too be fully realized, not only in driver development but also in engine development... I'm not surprised 1 bit that it is not working correctly yet.

I've made a few hairworks jokes myself, but it's a silly comparison. I remember loading up Witcher and being totally impressed with the graphics, but laughably dimissive of the idea of having fancy hair for me and a wolf at the cost of a single FPS (much less 10 or whatever it was).

But doesn't ray tracing promise to be much more than just cool reflections? Ten years from now, do we expect that most AAA games will use ray tracing over rasterization?

That being said, as a prospective GPU buyer I'm excited about the idea of an evolutionary mechanism for game rendering, but like hell if I'm going to shell out money just to support it.

Nvidia can sit there and say they have invented full on non-raster rendering all they want...

The engine developers that make the actual game engines are the ones who have too add in the actual ability for it too use RTR correctly(Ray Trace Rendering).

in time I'm sure it will develop out too were most game engines will be using it(in theory once they work thru the initial problems there gonna have, it will be easier)

Thats the thing though. Who is going to spend to get this developed on a small target base? I would guess we are 5 years away from even seeing anything come to fruition worth a shit here, but that doesn't stop these idiots from trying to sell it as a supported on going software feature today like they continue to do with other "features" that continue to flop.

I do use "Flop" in a light hearted sense because I would bet some features would be fantastic. But no one is going to develop for it, unless it hits mainstream in console first (Because that is where the market demand is) and then it will transfer over to PC. As we are seeing now with HDR.

Who say's that you can only use 1 rendering system ? Raster + RTR can both be used together while RTR is being further developed along. You'll see better reflections/lighting systems from just RTR alone(easier distance calculations sense there using a trace for it instead of a raster).
