Started a character on Knot. This is definitely not a hotbar MMO -- ashes of creation is thata way. I personally enjoy the core combat so far, it isn't terrible -- it's quite responsive, when I do shit my dude is responding. There's 3 abilities for each weapon type equipped and by 30 you'll have 3 looks like for a total of 9 abilities. Weapon swapping will need to be quick and satisfying at end game for fluid combat/builds I think.
The game does need another year though; majority of weapon types aren't in the game which is kinda boring imo plus the obvious lack of a developed "world". If they can keep up their own momentum and carry on I think in a year this will see a solid release. Look forward to playing for the next 10 days and would rather they just do a permanent early access but w/e.
I also like the built in voice chat -- some of you may want to turn area chat off tho.
This is a game made for consoles and their solution to limited buttons is this weapons swapping system, which is lackluster. When you use an ability in slot 1, whatever that abilities cooldown is, puts every other ability in slot 1 on that cooldown.
For example, if I had the following set up (cooldown times are for demonstration purposes and are not accurate):
(Weapon Slot 1) Healing staff:
Slot 1: Blink (10 second cooldown)
Slot 2: Heal (2 second cooldown)
Slot 3: Group heal (5 second cooldown)
(Weapon Slot 2) Fire Staff:
Slot 1: Fireball (3 second cooldown)
Slot 2: Meteor (20 second cooldown)
Slot 3: Flame Dash (10 second cooldown)
(Weapon Slot 3) Musket:
Slot 1: Feign Death (8 second cooldown)
Slot 2: Sniper Shot (12 second cooldown)
Slot 3: Cant_Remember_Ability_012 (99 second cooldown)
When I casts Slot 1: Blink it also puts Slot 1: Fireball and Slot 1: Feign Death on a 10 second cooldown. So if I was to Slot 2: Sniper Shot, switch to Fire staff, Slot 3: Flame Dash, switch to healing staff, and Slot 1: Blink, then all my abilities would be locked in cooldown for ~8+ more seconds.
