Also people are going fucking loco over this packers team... why suddenly are they clear SB contenders?
Process of elimination.

Seahawks: It's been nearly a decade since the SB winner won even one playoff game the next year, so they're out.
49ers: A rash of injuries/suspensions in a tough division, so they're out.
Saints: Their defense is even worse than the Packers', so they're out.
Bears: Receivers are better, but the entire roster is worse than the Packers', so they're out.
Eagles: People aren't sure if their offense is a mirage or not, and likely every DC spent their summer break scheming how to stop it.
Falcons, Lions, Bucs, etc.: Too far of a jump in one season, so they're out.

Really, their only logical choice is the Packers.

Needless to say, I'm not booking my ticket to Arizona yet. First off, the Packers are one more OL injury away from being a one-and-done playoff team. Second, NO probably wins if the game is in NO. Third, this year's 49ers seem like exactly the sort of team that seems dead after Week 9 or so, only to squeeze into the last Wildcard and kill the Packers in the playoffs yet again. Fourth, the Falcons are hardly a perennial door mat, and if they get in, could upset a team or two before they get knocked out. Fifth, the Eagles could be for real. And most importantly...

Sixth: There's no sign the Seahawks will stumble in the playoffs. Most of your Super Bowl slumps are explainable: Retriement / Salary Cap for the Ravens, the Packers ran into their kryptonite in the Giants, etc. The Seahawks lost far less than most SB winners and they have few kryptonite teams.

As hyperbolic as it sounds, tonight's game probably sets if Seattle gets the 1st seed or not. And if they do, the only real danger for them not getting back to the Super Bowl is the 49ers coming to town for the upset.

So Seahawks aren't going to make it because teams are rarely as good the year after winning a SB, but the 49ers also won't make it because they're in a tough division? What?

Also, I don't think you pay much attention to the NFL outside of the Packers. The Saints were a top defense last year - especially against the pass. They held opponents to less than 200 passing yards per game last year. They were fourth in total yards and points allowed per game.

Saints are my pick for the NFC. Not sure if they'd win the Super Bowl, but I think Brees gets to play in one again at least.

I don't agree but the Saints are the NFC favorite with most of the talking heads I listened too.

No, I said that's what they think, and then spent the next paragraph refuting it.

As for the Saints, they were shockingly better on pass defense... so much so that many expect them to regress (the numbers weren't as rosy when adjusted by opponent either). If they don't regress they will be an even more popular pick rather quickly.

Saints will make the playoffs which is all that matters. Playoffs anyone can win.
Yeah, the question is can the saints get 13 regular season wins and the first seed. If the saints play at home til the big game there is a much stronger chance they get there.

Why would the pass defense regress? Keenan Lewis is a shut down corner, opposite of him, Robinson, is a bit of a question mark, but Greer wasn't exactly playing at the top of his lvl before his season ending injury either. Vaccaro missed several games due to injury/concussion, if he stays healthy he will have a pro bowl caliber year. And the saints had possibly the biggest free agent signing in the off season in signing Jairus Byrd.

I see no reason for them to regress (but I am a Saints native) because of our offseason pick ups. We have byrd with vaccaro now which is just insane and like mentioned above robinson with lewis. Lewis is easily one of the most underrated in league when we were putting him on teams #1 receivers and he was shutting them down. The only problem is robinson, if he plays to the level he can then its over. Lets not forget we have Jordan, Galette and Hicks trying to murder the QB.

3) Getting their young, elite talent locked up to long, team-friendly deals (Tyron Smith, Dan Bailey, and soon Dez) with the cap space from letting the above players walk.
Thank god they got their kicker locked up long term on a team friendly deal!

Field goals will be a very important component of the Dallas offense for years to come. This was a very wise move.
