Defensive holding call on the interception was really fucking lame. The NFL has gone so far overboard with increasing offensive yardage/scoring that the refs are just changing the entire direction of these games like it's nothing. Obviously Denver is/was going to win this game but the refs put the final dagger in SD with that crap call. Obviously Manning is going to kill you if he gets a second chance from the zebras.

Well a Chargers turn over that won't be reversed. Guess that about does it.

Saints defense was good last year, worst defense in the history of the NFL the year prior. We have a Saints fan in our family who moved to Louisiana when he was 9 but moved back here and the Saints stuck with him so I know them pretty good. Also when I say Brees is having a shit year, I mean a shit year for him.

NFL Stats: Team

4th in total defense last year.
1 year doesn't make a difference for me defense wise since consistently we have a bad to average defense in the Payton era. I would agree on the Brees thing. I have pretty much given up on the anything happening this year although with how bad the NFC South is this year there is still a chance. I believe we house 4 of the 5 worst defense in the league.

Broncos being the broncos it would seem, didn't expect anything else.

Wasn't there a post not that long ago comparing such things and the difference really wasn't that much.

Twitter map shows the most popular NFL teams in each county of the United States | For The Win

The Twitter data team released an interactive map of the most popular NFL teams around the country. The map measures teams allegiance by looking at the number of Twitter users in each county who follow official NFL Twitter accounts. The map shows the three most popular teams, broken down by percent, for each county across the United States.

You can explore the map several ways:

By team: See how fans of specific teams are dispersed across the country.
Compare teams: Compare fan bases of two different teams.
Nationally: A snapshot of the most popular (and second-most popular) teams in different areas.
By county: Look at team allegiance in any county.
Interactive map

The Cowboys have fans just about everywhere

22 different states have at least one Cowboy-dominant county. 22!

Florida is a melting pot of football allegiances

Within the 67 counties in Florida, there are 12 different ?most popular? teams. They include the Dolphins, Bucs, Jags, Saints, Cowboys, Packers, Bears, Falcons, Patriots, Seahawks, Chiefs (really, Sumter County?) and Broncos.

No one really wants to cheer for the Raiders

No county in the United States is dominated by Raiders fans. However, they?re a popular No. 2 pick in California behind the 49ers ? so they?ve got that going for them.

Cowboys v. Redskins

The Cowboys-Redskins rivalry isn?t much of a rivalry. Even in Virginia, loyalties are split between the teams.

Bears v. Packers

The rivalry is split almost perfectly along the Wisconsin-Illinois state line.

That map's been linked all over the place yesterday. It confirmed what I already knew, Cowboys, Steelers, Packers are the most bandwagoned teams by a mile. SF and NE are pretty well represented in the nationwide nuthugger category too though, NE maybe more than I expected.

2014 Top 10 penalties: Offensive Holding, False Start, Defensive Holding, Defensive Pass Interference, Illegal use of hands, Unnecessary Roughness, Delay of Game, Defensive Offside, Neutral Zone Infraction.

2009 Top 10 penalties: False Start, Offensive Holding, Defensive Offside, Defensive Pass Interference, Unnecessary Roughness, Delay of Game, Illegal Block Above the Waist, Defensive Holding, Face Mask (15 Yards), Illegal Contact.

Illegal Contact, and Defensive holding have both made drastic increases, but flags are also up across the board everywhere. In 2009 the amount of penalties thrown per week (16 games) was roughly 183. In 2014 it has increased to roughly 209 flags per week. As to how it is effecting the game, the recent rule changes have increased yardage per game and points by game at one of the fastest paces in the leagues history. Without the kickoff rules that were put in place in 2011 the scoring trend would be much higher. Return yards are down by almost half since 2009, which is the only thing offsetting the increase in passing yards and penalty yards. The only good news is that the NFL has a history of correcting itself, and you don't usually see multiple peaks of yardage and points in a 10 year span. But with recent trends, who the hell knows.

Put 15 points on Broncos, must have been a really stupid decision on my part since this game was apparently a tossup.

NE maybe more than I expected.
Maine has no jobs
NH has huge property tax
Vermont has insane property prices
Massachusetts has the highest cost of living in the country
RI is a shithole

All of them are freezing fucking cold 5 months out of the year. It's not that NE fans "travel well", they just move the fuck out.

edit: MA isnt #1, but way up there

Man it's like I have this debate every year

I always say from a Eagle's perspective the Cowboys fans consider them their rivals more than the Redskins. Whereas the Redskins fans consider the Cowboys their rivals. I know it's based on NFC East traditions mostly fueled by the 70s and 80s. For example here in the DC area this week is referred to as "Cowboys Week".

Do Cowboys fans call this week "Redskins Week"?

Let me add that I mean Cowboys fans outside of the DC area.

Need some resident Cowboys fans to weigh in.

We call this week "They Better Win or Engage Panic Mode"

(Full Disclosure: Panic Mode is engaged any time the Cowboys lose and Super Bowl parade routes are planned after every win.)

To more seriously answer the question, it has been sooooo long since both the Most-Hated-Mascot and Cowboys have been good at the same time, that the rivalry is really in name only. The Eagles and Giants are more "dreaded and feared" these days. A lot more emphasis will be placed on the Eagles games simply because Division Titles will be decided on those weeks. Playing the Most-Hated-Mascot is just a week in which we are reminded there is a younger version of Jerah! out there and thank God he's not in Dallas.
