I have been as hard as anyone on Kaepernick this year, but you simply can't put that at his feet. He played quite well most of the game. That last drive he literally had no time to do anything.
Yeah. If you are up by 4 with 1:45 to play and you lose that's on the defense. Kaepernick did enough to win the game which is a welcome change from the last two weeks.

He was ok. He looked pretty fucking terrible for most of the first half. He was captain checkdown. Then he started to take more shots downfield in the second half and Im happy he hit on a couple of them, but the guy just doesnt look comfortable. If you watch him in his first year when he took over for Alex Smith, this was a confident, cock-sure guy who had a swagger on the field. Remember the cold weather game when he didnt wear sleeves and it was like -4 degrees? He won that game and made huge plays in that game and was just a different player.

He was running into the endzone and running by people, making big plays to Vernon Davis etc, he was on the brink of being a superstar.

Now a 220 yard passing game with a couple of touchdowns is great for him.... Wasnt his fault they lost that game obviously, but the 49ers kind of needed him when he was doing all of those things (on offense) and they still do. The difference is he isnt producing, and whether its the offensive lines fault, the receivers not getting separation, or coaching, I dont know, but that offense is pretty fucking bad when isnt playing at a high level.

The defense is almost like a bad nightmare from the mid 2000's. They *seem* to be a solid group, have some pretty good talent up front (Aaron Lynch etc) and give the illusion they can compete and force the issue, but then give up a 3rd and 5. Then give up another 3rd and long. Then the inevitable big passing play will land and then they give up a redzone score or field goal. Over and over and over. Cant get off the field on 3rd down, and is prone to the big play over the top and vulnerable to playmakers who get in space. This is going to be a looooong season -_-

He has no line. Wilson, who is basically the same QB with a better D backing him, is kind of in the same boat this year. Both teams are going to have systemic issues until their O-Lines get unfucked. After watching the Packers go through the same issue during the Favre to Rodgers transition, I can tell you that it takes a while to fix.

I don't think thats a fair comparison really as I think Wilson is a lot smarter with the ball than Kaeperbro though they have the same style and o-line problems.

Yea Wilson is a more refined, disciplined QB who has better awareness and accuracy.

Keaperbro would run by him and probably has a bigger arm, but his mechanics are fucking god awful. Whats crazy is the 49ers had one of the best O-lines in football not even 2 years ago. They had a bunch of first rounders, Iupati, Davis, and then guys like Boone etc, now they are just getting manhandled.

Their line either played really well yesterday or the Bengals line played really poorly. We got some sacks but it felt mostly like coverage sacks or the fact that Wilson can't quickly move through a progression. But when he got hit we were really laying shoulderpads into his gut. I'm sure he was pretty bruised after the game.

Russell Wilson is on a 70-sack pace | ProFootballTalk

They really need to get that sorted out or he is gonna end up dead.
Yeah for all the talk of his awareness in the pocket and elusiveness, Wilson has taken the most sacks in the league (22). It's definitely part of the reason they're 2-3. Watching that last drive for Kaeperbro last night, it was just laughable. Guys were coming through completely unblocked only rushing 4 guys. Zero chance to do anything.

He runs and tries to extend plays. It only makes sense he'd get sacked more often than someone ready and willing to throw it away. Same reason Roeth has like +100 more sacks than Eli.

Not sure John Fox got the memo that the Bears were tanking. I don't even know who most of these defenders and receivers are that are playing. Wonder what the GM will come up with next..

Hard to argue when Ben does it, for every sack seems like he comes up with some crazy 40 yard completion while like 2-3 D linemen are hanging/falling off of him.

While Wilson obviously can't do what Ben does with guys hanging on him.. Wilson DOES get loose and make big plays when forced out of the pocket.

@Tenks I don't think it was Wilson not going through progressions. I think its a combination of our passing game being high school simple combined with the fact our receivers can not get open because of the simple routes we run. Our O line played WAY better yesterday. Unfortunately neither the O or the D could close the game out and both had multiple chances to do so.

Yeah, I thought the OL played a pretty solid game yesterday especially compared to some other games. As Matty Ice said earlier in the year, it just takes a couple bad plays to lose a game sometimes.
