Yea I dont care about perennial failures...might as well just go to the "new" NFL.

Ok, in the salary cap era there were basically nothing but Pats and a couple years from the Jets in 20+ years.

Not a win, but the 88-92 Bills should be in the conversation long before the 72 Phins.

Anyway, it looks like tonight's game was a real barn burner. MNF has been hot garbage for the last 5 or 6 years.

Oddly enough, it's because they try to match up all the good teams from the previous year, or who they thought were up and comers. Then new year comes around and a lot of those teams are struggling or suck a year later. Whereas Sunday nights seem to get more division rivalry games (usually fun/good despite team's records), and later in the year they get the benefit of flexing good match ups into the slot.

Osweiler didn't play good. That's why he was benched.
Good enough to play his way into that contract.

Code:
Player Att Comp Yds Comp % Yds/Att TD TD % INT INT % Long Sck Sack/Lost Rating
Peyton Manning 331 198 2249 59.8 6.8 9 2.7 17 5.1 75 16 95 67.9
Brock Osweiler 275 170 1967 61.8 7.2 10 3.6 6 2.2 72 23 151 86.4

I kept telling my buddy even after our 3-1 start that we looked good and I was optimistic but we'd end up 8-8 and he didn't believe me. And yet here we are loving that .500

Lets not bs...it's not that he played "good enough" for that contract. It's that Houston was desperate as fuck for anything resembling a starting QB. The guy who drafted him (Elway) walked away from him when the price got too high. Not saying he can't turn into a decent or good starter in the league, just that he was straight up Matt Flynn 2.0 more than some guy who genuinely earned a payday.

Don't know how anyone would get the benefit of the doubt. Ball not even there just going low into his left knee.

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you but he kept the ship aloft on the eventual Super Bowl winner in a season where Manning was a shell of his former self. More to the point, it's hard to argue that he wasn't playing better than Manning during his time as the starter. And yet, Broncos still turned back to Manning when they hit the playoffs. Despite having the worst season of his career, they still felt like he gave them the best chance to win with that team.

At the end of the season he wasn't playing better. When he got benched he looked like hot dog shit. Obviously I agree they must have thought Manning gave them the best chance to win in the playoffs, but that doesn't say much about Osweiler then. He showed flashes of potential, but in truth that team rode their D and some running game to a Super Bowl win. That's the only reason I labeled him Flynn 2.0. Never really showed us what he is (hell we still don't know through 6 games with Houston).

Texans were just so desperate for anything resembling a potential real NFL starter so they could get over the hump in the playoffs they threw a ton of money at him. Their division is shit at the moment, they know they don't need a lot there to contend and anyone that won't have 4+ turnovers in a playoff game looks amazing to them I'm sure.

Which brings me full circle and echoes what others are saying. There's no guarantee that Dak will continue along this trajectory. I'm all for riding the hot hand but I see the success of this season revolving around dominant O-line play, a brutal rushing attack, the defense being both opportunistic and shutdown at key times, and nearly mistake-free quarterback play. The last bit is important. Dak is worlds better than what rolled through last year and the coaches clearly feel as if they don't need to limit the playbook when he's in there, but more than that he's doing a damn good job of not. So if the reasonable expectation is that Romo is healthy and can keep the train rolling, ala 2014 (when he still had to orchestrate a couple of come from behind wins), then there's no point in sitting him if the feeling is he gives them the best chance to win.

Thing is, Dak right now is not just giving them a chance to win, they're winning big. They beat up on Cincy and Green Bay the last two weeks. Romo, while Romo, has to be a little bit of an unknown coming in because of threat of injury (lets not quibble, he's frail), and rust being out this long. We're talking about a guy who's only played in what, 4 games out of the last 22?

Hi kirk cousins, hi Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Not really in the same bracket numbers wise if you compare Cousins, Fitz, and Osweiler last year.

Cousins was 5th in passer rating, 6th in Total QBR, 1st in completion %, 10th in yards (broke 4k though in his first full season), threw 29 TD's compared to 11 picks

Fitz: 24th in passer rating, 11th in Total QBR, 29th in completion %, 15th in yards, 31 TD's to 15 picks.

Osweiler had a lower rating than either Cousins or Fitz, much worse TD/Int ratio than both, and a much lower completion % than Cousins. Cousins also was 8th in yards per attempt, while Fitz and Osweiler didn't crack the top 20.

Dak is playing really good, mostly mistake free football, which is exactly what Romo will do when he takes the field.

Wut.

I guess I'm jaded, because every time Romo is near the opposing end zone or his end zone my heart sinks and I expect a soul-crushing interception.

Even if Dak stays at 1 interception for the next 10 years and plays every game, it will take years to erase my jitters.

I expected Romo to be a nice stop-gap until they draft a star QB, because I could never see him taking them to the big show.

When they basically paid him superbowl-winning Joe Flacco money I couldn't believe my eyes.

Are you suggesting that Flacco is better than Romo?
