It is also extremely unlikely Mahomes ever ends up better than Smith either. Should be interesting to see if he lives up to their apparent expectations.

It's sad how crazy the locals are for Mahomes. I just don't get it. It's not like Smith was some abomination. It seems like a majority of locals thought you could never win a Super Bowl with Alex Smith and I disagree with that. If Mahomes throws 20 interceptions next year, I think they'll look back wistfully at Smith's single digit turnover seasons.

We all know this. Who do you replace him with? IMO you HOPE that one year he doesn't shit the bed.

Literally anyone. Biggest issue in NFL coaching is the old boys network. Its how Darth Bills assistants keep getting work, despite floundering outside his influence. It pains me to say it, but more teams need to do what the Eagles did and roll the dice on younger guys, like Peterson. This whole pattern of hiring anyone who used to work for Bill Walsh, Darth Bill, or the Big Tuna needs to be phased out.

Maybe, maybe not. Favre threw picks all over the fucking place and, durability and superbowl rings aside (he actually has more appearances and more playoff wins) is worse than Rogers in every statistical measurable way. But he was a shit ton more fun to watch, because he could just randomly WTF PWN teams out of the blue. As a GB fan, I can really understand not being satisfied with having the talent but just going one and done every year. Honestly, Reid is more on the hook for that than Smith, but he is the guy who got thrown under the bus to save Reids ass and its hardly the first time he has burned a QB to save himself.

The more I think about this, I'm thinking the Redskins have turned the corner. They realized they fucked up with Cousins. They are now preparing to draft a QB and know they can't throw this kid (whoever it is) to the wolves as a rookie. Let the kid sit behind Smith a couple years and learn accordingly.

Giving Synder FAR too much credit.

the biggest problem with nfl teams not "getting over the hump" IS the coaching or rather how poor overall coaching IS in the NFL when you compare success.

you have "Darth Bill" as the #1 coach in the league then you have...who in the AFC/NFC?

most head coaches in the league are either mediocre or "new" (ie been with team under 4 years) thus have no sustained track record of success-since they are new.

tier 1
Belichick - 19?yrs as the head coach of the patriots, since 2001: superbowl 8 times, conference championship 12 times, & made the playoffs 15 times.

tier 2
Tomlin- great coach in the regular season, surrounded by talented players, yet...loses in the playoffs pretty most of the time in rounds 2 or 3. - 8 playoff appearances since 2007 (tomlin took over i think in 07) 2 superbowls 3 conf championships, 8 playoff- a record of success, -except vs BB.
Reid - great coach in the regular season, surrounded by talented players yet loses in the playoffs in rounds 1 or 2- pretty much every year.

tier 3
everyone else

nfc

tier 1
none

tier 2
carroll
mccarthy
peyton

tier 3
everyone else

now this is not to say that the new coaches won't move up, but at this time, they do not have the record of past performance to say...this coach is really good, POTENTIALLY there are -imo- 4 or 5 new coaches that have a shot, they just have to get results to put them in the same category as whom i am calling the tier 2 coaches- sustained success in the regular season over the course of several years.

I think Mike Zimmer is mad legit. He just hasn't been with Minnesota that long and they were pretty garbage when he took over so it took some time to turn them around.

I feel like this is dumb. If your tier 1 coaches are just Belicheck, then you're basically talking about generational coaches. How many of those do you fucking expect there to be? One a decade? To you, someone like Ditka would be a tier 2 coach. Bill Cowher would be a tier 2 coach. What's the point of having a tier 1 for current coaches when under your standards there would be about 5 in the history of the NFL.

But gave up a 3rd round pick and one of if not the best slot corners in the league who was cost controlled for another 2 years? Hell of a price to pay to fix the fuck up with Cousins, and not helping the new guy coming in very much.

This is almost troll level:Jeff Fisher when he trotted out all the draft picks he got from the Redskins for RGKnee

That might have been better had they made the playoffs while he was there. Even RGKnee won a division title.

Fans are idiots and always think the unknown backup is the next Aaron Rodgers. They look at the 3 or 4 examples where something like that was true and ignore the hundreds of times it wasn't.
