There's no way to quantify any of that shit, you can come up with reasons to ding anyone in the NFL. Bottom line is he produced more than anyone.

I mean, ever see Antonio Brown without Ben in the lineup (ie Raiders game)? He suddenly doesnt look so good, and didnt look as good when the OL in Pittsburgh was shit in the not so distant past either.

The only RB I can remember who still produced when the defense knew the ball was going to them were the early years in APs career. He would house 70 yard runs vs 9 man boxes and still produce big numbers.

So no one else thinks vander esch deserves DROY?

I'm probably just a homer.

Esch tackles 140, Leonard 163
Esch sacks 0, Leonard 7
Esch Int 2, Leonard 2
Esch Forced Fumbles 0, Leonard 4
Esch fumble recoveries 0, Leonard 2

Esch was very good this year, Leonard was better across the board.

This. The whole "well he produced b/c there wasn't anyone else" v. "he produced despite defenses knowing there was no one else" can get weighted either way. Only Giant that had more receiving TD's than him was Beckham (6 v. 4). He had 11 of their 13 rushing TD's. However we want to rank it, putting up over 2k scrimmage yards is impressive behind that O line.

Esch had less playtime iirc, which is both a plus and a minus in this discussion.

True, also the fact that Leonard was drafted about 20 spots below Esch at the start of Round 2 and made the impact he did from day 1 is a mark in his favor. Also didn't just seem to be a tackle machine, guy was making plays rushing the passer with 7 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. Esch was a beast, just seems clearly a 2 horse race between Leonard and Derwin James

Yeah I think zero sacks or fumbles for Esch is what ultimately takes him back out of the DROY discussion. I mean you'd have to go back and pore over the season to know if Esch just wasn't being sent in on many pass rushes in the first place, but a couple sacks or fumbles in any of their single score losses this season could have had them in contention for 1 or 2 seed. They made it into the playoffs but their road to the Superbowl is a nasty one. Thankfully (for them) they get the Seachickens at home instead of in Seattle.

Esch is and is going to be a great player, it's just that Leonard is looking like the steal of the entire draft with those kinds of numbers. He led the league with 20 more tackles than the 2nd place guy (Blake Martinez from GB), and as a rookie at that.

The fact Leonard did not make the pro bowl just shows what a ridiculous popularity contest that "accolade" really is. Fans should lose their vote and it should really be a panel of people who have an idea whats going on. I'll never forget, I think like 2009 or 10 when Alan Faneca was on the Jets at this point and still made the pro bowl near the end of his career based on name recognition when that year he had led the league in sacks given up by any interior lineman.

Oh iirc the Colts have a lineman that could genuinely be considered for OROY (Colts allowed the least sacks of the regular season with 18) but lol at the idea of a lineman getting that kind of recognition.

This stat comparison immediately reminds me of Zach Thomas and Ray Lewis.

Quenton Nelson, a guard...who the Colts were more than happy to take at #6 after trading back 3 spots with the Jets (picking up two extra 2nd's this past year and another in 2019). Pretty sure Denver was going to take Nelson at #5 except Chubb fell to them. Kid's a stud.

Did ray kill a dude? I thought the only trouble he got into was picking up hookers the week before the superbowl.

Looking forward to 16 seasons of him as HC in Cincy.

I thought for sure Wilbon on PTI was gonna bitch that Hue was brought in just to interview for the rooney rule and be showed the door right after, but he didn't mention it.

If they actually hire him I assume cincy fans will riot.

Domestic violence charge vs. Foster dropped

I...guess this is a good thing? Just feels like the carnival will go on with Foster.
I mean, he will still get punished by the league regardless. I would be shocked if he got less than 6 games.

Maybe this will finally wake him up, but I am doubtful. Kid still has potential, but he is quite injury prone as well. I was bummed to see him go because I still thought he could be really good, but the drama is just not worth it.

The only thing that might prevent him from getting punished is reading some rumors that a witness came forward with a recording of the accuser demanding he give her money/pay off credit debt of hers or something. Could be a total sham from the start.

If those things were all lies by her (doubtful but possible), he might as well beat her ass now, haha. No one would believe her.
