Unfortunately the same is true of Earl with the Hawks :( I knew it was going to end, I had just hoped for it to end better than this.
At least he showed up and will play. Thomas is professional enough that he is going to play his ass off, and I hope he gets paid somewhere in FA next year. The guy is a generational talent at FS. I understand the Seahawks reluctance to pay him, because regardless of what they say, they are fully in rebuild mode. Why pay a man a big paycheck when he is on the backend of his career.

Bell on the other hand is a selfish pussy. I get it, football players (especially RB's) have a short shelf life and he wants to maximize his income in that time. But he should bet on himself, show up and play his ass off and hope to get paid in FA next year.

I really hope the next CBA makes some serious changes to the franchise tag. Limit it to first round picks finishing their rookie contract, and can only be used for one year.

I just wanted to point out I said they should let him walk next year since 12 million wasnt enough. Apparently 14 isnt enough either. No RB is worth over 14 at 27 years old.

I wonder if the Steelers end up shopping Bell at this point.

I doubt it. There is no real upside for them to do it at this point.

what is his actual contract status currently? If he was traded to another team that was going to agree to sign him to a big deal (hypothetically if another team would do this, of course), the Steelers might want to try to get value back before he just walks.

He has to sign his franchise tag first. Right now the steelers cant ding him for not showing up because technically he doesnt work for them until he signs the tag. But he wont get paid the 855k per game he would get under the tag for every game he sits without signing the tag.

If he doesnt sign by week 10 then he is not elligible to be a free agent next year, so he wouldnt be able to get anything from another team next year if he hold sout past week 10. Plus he leaves 9+ million dollars of salary this year on the table which is so fucking much money

He can screw over the steelers for the first 9 weeks, but they are holding all the power in the end. Good luck getting a big contract from another team when they see this is how you act. Between injuries, his drug suspensions and now this he has a lot of baggage. Hes a crazy good player but when you can get him or squeaky clean family man David Johnson for the same money who in their right mind will want Bell as a team owner?

We say this, but the likelihood that some team or GM isn't dumb enough to completely ignore all this is too great for me to think no one would come calling Pittsburgh or would sign him in free agency next year.

Its the NFL, if guys like Richie Incognito can get on a team, LB will get signed by someone. Looking forward to see him get put in the game in week 10 when the OL parts like the Red Sea in some A gap iso.

Its one thing to lose your FO and coaches etc with a contract dispute, but the OL that blocks for you who now want your backup to do well in spite of you? Best of luck with that, a lot of these guys have short windows and want to make a run with the team in mind.

Like Omayga said, even if they decided to trade him, he would have to play on his franchise tag for this year first before a team could sign him to a new contract. So getting another team to agree to that would be a stretch I think.

I'm guessing the Seahawks haven't fully accepted they're in rebuilding mode and still think their window is open. Otherwise, why they would turn down a 2nd rounder for a player who hates your team and is 100% gone after the season is beyond me.

I kind of felt like the Seahawks know they have to rebuild and have started that but are trying to hide it from the fans. Them not fully embracing it makes more sense. I don't know why they would waste valuable prime years for Wilson by dicking around and stretching it out.
