It's bobrovskys to lose at this point. Aka trollololo philly.
Just to be clear, Western Conference goalies have an unfair advantage=P They don't have to play the Pens, Ovie, Stamkos, Voracek, etc etc.

Of course the flip side of that coin is you could say those guys wouldn't score so many goals if they were playing those sick ass West goalies=P

edit: Best goalie last night was Andrew Ference. Sick kick save, I love when non-goalies make goalie moves to get a save.

edit2: BTW Pens sweep Canadians for the season. You're welcome, Bane.

And Doug Murray gets his first goal in 146 games, ending longest drought in the league.

edit 3: Watching NHL tonight, these Flames/Red Wings "highlights" are hilarious. One flames goal from a D-man losing the puck in to Howard's feet from behind where it took about 5 lucky ass little bounces before Howard kicked it in. Then Howard loses the puck behind the net right to a Flames dude(and just stands and whines instead of making an effort). Then a long ass dump up in the air by the Wings bounces in on Kiprusoff. All in the 3rd. Wild.

That's the point I was going to make. It's kind of a chicken and egg thing. The East has more guys in the top 10 or 20 goal scorers, but the West is generally a tighter checking, more defensively oriented conference.

if you'd like to see the most passionate, classy-fist-pumping rendition of the Nation Anthem ever sung - tune into the Bruins @ 7:30 EST. Rene Rancourt has a job to do.
Looks like Boston hockey fans pretty much crushed it, like no performer ever could.

Really hard to tell in a season where teams only play within their conferences too. I would say that the bottom level goaltending int he East is worse overall than out West, which may affect goal totals. On the other hand, I don't think you'd hear much argument from West teams about who are the most dangerous players in the league either.

TL;DR, who knows, I still think the West wins the Cup if the Pens don't get healthy.

Which feels less and less likely. It would be nice for Bylsma to actually have his two best players healthy at the same time for an extended period for the first time in like 3 years.

Was how we felt to a lesser degree last season with Mike Green getting hurt like Mike Green usually does and Backstrom being out with the concussion for 40 games. Not the same caliber as Sid and Geno, same idea. What is Neal's status right now btw? I know Letang came back.

Last I heard they all skated the other day with the team. But that doesn't mean shit really, Geno and Letang were skating for weeks before playing again. And then both missed more time after coming back.

I really hope they're mostly just saying fuck it and resting up for the playoffs. If they beat Boston tomorrow that locks up the Eastern Conference. At which point they'd probably take the chance to rest most of them next week.

They'vewon20 of the last 22. If you look at the "Top Performer" for those games you won't see Crosby, Malkin, or Neal's names. They've been the best team in the league over that span because of defense, goaltending, and roleplayers all stepping up. That shit won't last forever. Dupuis, Sutter, and Morrow aren't gonna keep scoring just enough come playoff time. They need those big names to come back and take some of the pressure off, even if all it does is give them easier match-ups because teams are more focused on them.

East is all flash, no defense. West has better rounded teams. How many times have the Pens had games this year where the total number of goals scored in a game was in double digits?

For what its worth, as soon as Jaromir Jagr moved from West to East this year, his stats got significantly better. Same thing for Iginla. I doubt they are the exception.

As much as I agree with the west having better rounded teams, I think those two have better stats because they are playing with much better teams. They were each on two of the worst teams in the west.

I would also like to point out that the Sedin duo has been one of the scariest duo's to face in hockey for the last couple of years. This year they have fallen behind but I have to imagine that it's a product of their back-to-back extended seasons.

Prior to all their injuries, NJD and NYR were the only eastern teams that I found to have all that great of defense. And, with NJD, it was mostly about their forecheck. The Pens, in their first round against Philly last year, were just terrible defensively. Those teams are so loaded up front that it has a tendency to turn into a shooting gallery.

Yeah, that's definitely a consideration. I couldn't think of any other decent point producers traded this year from one conference to another to see how the point totals changed.

On the subject of league leaders: Blackhawks' 2 goalies (Emery and Crawford) are both ranked in the top 5 (3rd and 4th respectively) in the league in GAA, and in the top 10 in SV%. That's a hell of a goalie tandem. While Kane and Toews are both in top 10 in the league in points scored.

2 since March started. Exactly ONE more than Chicago.

Except the Pens won theirs.
Hmmm... seemed like a lot more. I still stand by my opinion that the East is mostly all scoring, no defense. Whichever loser manages to claw their way to the top of ECF, will get their shit promptly pushed in by the whatever team wins the WCF (pretty much the Hawks).

Also, it's pretty crazy that in top 12 in points scored, 4 teams have 2 players a piece in it (Pens, Flyers, Hawks and Lightning)

Pens would have 5 in there if they weren't so fuckin' fragile!

Also, Fleury tied for league lead in wins...with only 30 starts. Yeah. Here's hoping he's more '09 playoff Fleury than '12 playoff Fleury this season...

I know the Red Wings aren't what they used to be, but seriously fuck the NHL if they break their consecutive playoff streak. I'll blame the lockout until the day I die.

I dont know how meaningful that stat is. You can still suck hard and allow 3-4 goals a game as long as you have a high powered offense to cream the other goalie.

Yeah, I'm hoping the Wings just barely make it into the playoffs as 8th seed, get promptly killed by the Hawks in a 4-0 playoff series and go home. That way we get the double satisfaction of crushing their hopes, and them not having to bitch about missing the playoffs due to lockout.
