Like I said, his contract doesn't run out until 2015. That's three more years at a salary of at least 7.2 million a year. I doubt he'll be around in 2018-2020 when the new CBA or TV contract comes up, but he's 60 years old and he's not walking away from 21 million dollars because he's a convieniet scapegoat for fans and players to vent their anger. It goes with the job and the owners aren't going to fire him and pay him and another person to be the commissioner when there's nothing major to do anyway, the subject is moot.

If jackass fans want to ruin the best moment in a hockey players life and overshadow the event by booing Bettman during the Stanley Cup ceremony, shame on them.
The owners love Bettman, he makes them lots and lots of money. He is not there for the public to love him or the players to like him. TO suggest he is going anywhere is laughable at best.

Yeah, but mostly he's a loud mouthed cunt.
That's what it comes down to really. I don't think he's a bad GM by any means. Some of the moves he made in Toronto were highly suspect, especially the Kessel trade, but others were pretty good (Phaneuf). The problem is that he hasn't earned the right to be a complete cunt to everyone who questions him, but he seems to think he has. The way he handled himself in the media was abhorrent. And apparently there's some question about how he also handled his personal life (Steve Simmons' article today), but I'm not sure what that's about. I think Simmons is a fucking moron himself, so who knows.

Apparently you missed the part of my post where I clearly said "It doesn't even have to be immediate, but when his contract runs out."

He won't be the Commish 5 years from now, I can almost guarantee that.

Fair enough. My only concern is that someone else is negotiating the next CBA for both sides.

All these reports about Nick Backstrom needing to go see a specialist for his "neck" injury make me worry. Reminds me of what went on with Crosby a little bit. Cannot afford him having another concussion.

Mike Babcock called Nick Lidstrom this week to try to talk him out of his retirement. I don't blame him, the Wings D is the weakest its been in 20 years. I hope Kenny Holland has a big trade in the works or its gonna be another short playoff run this year. We have the cap space and his only offseason moves have been signing Tootoo, Samuelsson, and Gustavsson.

Losing Homer hurt pretty bad too, but the Wings need to develop that young talent. Pretty soon, it will be the mid 90's again with players that can't be caught. The Wings use to have the fastest team and we need it again.

The Isles big answer to Visnovsky staying in Russia is to bring back Radek Martinek... I like the guy, but over/under 10 games before he has a season ending injury?

Caps bring back Eric Fehr...a former 1st rounder of ours who ended up being a moderate bust. He'll probably explode both shoulders again lifting moving boxes.

I can't believe anyone would want Gustavsson.

Thinking about picking up Gamecenter this year, but I've heard the blackout restrictions are pretty horrible. Anyone able to provide some insight?

I really like this trade. I haven't seen Fistric play too much in all honesty, but I know when he played against the Oilers he hurt a couple guys with huge hits. Not sure how good he is otherwise, but we really do need a physical presence on the back end with Andy Sutton injured and not likely to come back soon. Local boy too. Kind of surprised at how cheap he came. One of the biggest mistakes the Oilers made in the past 10 years was trading Matt Greene, and it seems Fistric is cast in the same mould.

Thank you for the link, go hawks.
I hope I'm wrong but they didn't change much personnel in the off-eason and they'll likely play stink it up on the PP hockey again. Quennville I think is on a short leash. Bowman let him fire Haviland when he should have fired Kitchen so Bowman has the ammo to fire him if they do poorly this season.
