I remember posting an article saying they were going away. And then lamenting how the game was going out of it's way to be more boring and have less scoring. You disagreed because "6-7 guys are on pace" after 10 games.
We're going to get one. Barely.
Also I mentioned that there's 3-6 teams max that score 3+ goals per game anymore because how they've fucked up the game and every team has become so risk-averse.
There's 2 teams, and your Caps could still feasibly drop below it. Though unlikely.
It's a fucking shame. There's more talent in the league right now than ever before, and it's being stifled and wasted by unenforced rules and the horrible shift to more and more conservative gameplans.
Everything I said back then has been proven true. Again. I'm not some expert analyst(obviously), but you have to be filled with some kind of crazy blind optimism not to see this.
I suppose having your team play like killers all year could do that to you=P

We never were disputing that overall scoring is way down (almost getting to the point where it was in the Dead Puck Era), I just pointed out that a lot of guys had hot starts, and if any could maintain, we could easily still see a 100 point scorer. Even now, before today's games there were 7 guys scoring at a point/game pace that had played at least 43 games.
Everything else I absolutely agree with you on. Their coach's challenge has done more to prevent goals, although thankfully they aren't waving goals off for the slightest contact with goalies ever all the time anymore. They really need to figure out a way to encourage more scoring.
Hopefully the slight changes to goalie equipment coming next year help, but I'm doubtful.

I don't. Only way we ever win a Cup I'm convinced includes exorcising the demon that is the Penguins. Fully expect any deep run by us to include facing the Pens in Round 2. Gotta earn it.

I wanna say it depends on Fleury, but the Rangers are just about the laziest team in the east right now. Any team in the metro should take us in under 6. Really only feel comfortable playing the Panthers at this point but I think we can upset the Caps if it comes down to it.

Nothing to do with the Isles? That team is dysfunctional as shit right now. Coach just called out a couple of guys, Halak is still hurt (and one of their other goalies just got hurt they had to do an emergency call up I believe)...If the Isles end up playing anyone in the Metro in Round 1 I don't see them having any chance. As it is, Philly might pass them for WC1 to make a Caps/Isles rematch happen, and I'll take that.

Isles are just one of those teams that have our number. They just seem to play at a higher level whenever they are facing us and pick apart our "system" with ease. As far a Halak goes, Greiss has been the better goaltender this season apparently. Idk any Isles fan's that are upset with him playing over Halak personally but who knows, playoffs are a different monster. Haven't heard about a callup though so thats interesting. Tune in on Thursday if you wanna see what I mean. That game has all the makings of a perfect shitstorm, might even sell my kidney for a ticket!
As far as dysfynction goes, Rangers really aren't doing much better and we are friggen healthy.... Lundqvist has looked ugly lately and our blue line is super weak. Girardi and Boyle are a legit liability and M.Staal is only recently passable at best. I would go so far to say that the only way Isles have a chance of advancing in either division is if they play us in the first round. Thankfully the Pens seem to be taking that off the table though.

Flower has been good to great in the last few playoffs. The rest of the team just forgot how to score. Like the Bruins conference finals a couple years back where they only managed 4 goals as a team(Fleury barely played, just an example of the offense disappearing). After they went up 3-1 on the Rangers 2 years ago they scored 1 goal in each of the last 3 games to lose it. That series Fleury had one bad game, when NYR scored 5(Pens 1). The other 6 games were 2 each of 3(1 in OT), 2, and a pair of shutouts. And last year against the same Rangers in the 4 losses they scored 1 each again(and Fleury only let them score 2 in each of those, two of them in OT). Henrik is good, but if you literally have to have a shutout to win the game there's no blame to be put on you.
Basically I'm not worried about him , which is shocking even to me. I'm worried about that sudden stretch of zero offense to support him.
Of course if he can't play Matt Murray is the second coming of Jesus, so we'll be fine there. That kid is a fucking monster.
