Simmonds gets a game misconduct on what looked like a McDonagh dive.... kind of embarrassing but it's philly so fuck em?

Edit: McDonagh out the rest of the game too so I guess it was a good call. Still embarassing but now mostly because our captain has a glass jaw....

Hahahaha that's fucking great. Decent deal they signed him to as well. Cap hit is a little high, but 5 years is a lot better than 7 or 8. Also No move for only the first 2 years I believe then a list of teams he can be moved to after. Not a bad deal for the player or the team.

Getting out of 7 million in cap space/yr for 5 years is huge. This trade is a win for Toronto all around, I always thought his extension was dumb as shit. Getting a player who is doing very well in the AHL at 20 yrs old and a 2nd rounder makes it all the more worthwhile. Cowen and Greening will be bought out, burred or tire ironed by Lou, Michaelek is actually decent when healthy and is probably tradeable at next years deadline.

edit. Cowen has a weird thing in his contract where if he is bought out the team actually gets a cap credit. No idea how this works but this is how it would work

Yeah the cap credit thing is very strange. Overall pretty much works out as a 2nd round pick for Phaneuf. The price makes sense giving they're taking on all of the salary. Have to say a win for Toronto especially trying to clear space for a certain free agent this summer.

Interested in seeing Trotz back in Nashville, although not his first trip back or anything. But still going to watch the Caps, I'll probably catch the Lucic highlights on On the Fly later.

Boston got smoked, good lord. Caps/Preds was fairly sleepy for first 40 min outside of a fuckload of penalties, little more O all around in the 3rd.

Caps first team in NHL history with 39 wins through first 52 games. Shootout kind of affects that stat though since we have 3, plus the OT changes.

I love the Dave Steckel "assault" reference. Still to this day the only time anyone ever accuses Dave Steckel of being a tough guy or committing "assault" on anything. Peeps still can't let it go it was incidental contact, tall guy and shorter guy. Extremely unfortunate result, but by no means intentional or discipline worthy.

Pens have at least made themselves look like they can become the class of the rest of the division.

Best he's looked since early November. Finally starting to find our game and all it took was losing 2 of our better players and 50+ games. If we can overcome LA on Friday, I just might be convinced we've turned a corner here.

Erhoff (Kings) cleared waivers. I find that very interesting for a guy on a $1.5M deal. For him not to get claimed (seems like he can still play some), something must be going on.

If claimed off waivers doesn't the team only owe half his salary? Also he expires at the end of this season, must be serious salary cap concerns league wide, or teams at the 50 contract limit.
