mod chip? is this going to be like my old wii where I had to solder on a chip to somewhere inside?

there are two parallel jailbreaks going on.

first is the Team Executor version, which is gonna be a modchip that either you have to bust open the switch to install or will be something that attaches to either the SD or gamecard slot, like DS old mods. I don't really know the date on it, not that interested since it'll cost $$

second is the custom firmware called Atmosphere which will require no chips or anything, just free software jailbreak like the wii u / 3ds ones and replace the Switch firmware with its own version. Its currently expected to be out summer 2018.

lastly of course is the switch emulator on PC I posted above that will let you run switch games on a PC

yeah if you are on 4.1.0 system update or less turn off wifi and just wait around for the CFW to get released. if you're already on 5.0 not much you can do, it allegedly may be possible for that version too but maybe later

new switches currently ship with 4.1.0 but they will probably swap to a 5.x version soon that will be harder/impossible to jailbreak, i dunno

lotta shit happening today i guess, you can force the switch to boot into usb recovery mode by holding down the top right most pins in the joycon slot on the right side, then you need another hack to letusb mode run any code on the SD card



i imagine its still a few weeks out before we get ez-mode custom firmware/jailbreak but all the info is out now for anyone to do it

also the latest switch firmware (5.10+) has some code in it that suggests an updated hardware switch may come out with a slightly faster processor and presumably all these bootrom exploits fixed

Yeah looks like the first half of this year is going to be terrible for Switch. Just ports, DKC:Tropical Freeze being more expensive than when it launched on Wii U is a joke. Showed my nephews a Labo video demonstration and they just kinda shrugged at it.

I don't think Nintendo minds a repeat of the Wii considering it sold a stupid fuckton amount(3rd best console after Gameboy and 3DS which are both lower price handhelds, sold more than the PS3 or the X360). If you meant the Wii U which flopped like garbage, then you're definitely wrong since the Switch already outsold that and that was months ago.

There's a lot of good games on the console. There's not that many games yet, but the console is still relatively new. It does have some other good games coming too. I'd say it's a pretty healthy system, especially if you're into handheld stuff. It's still a Nintendo system though so it's mostly going to be great if you want to play the latest Nintendo games, although there's some decent 3rd party support for once it seems like.

I ended up selling mine, I didn't care for Zelda after I ran around for 2 hours trying to find places to take pictures with no story progression. I ended up not touching it for a few months and decided to unload it due to lack of titles.

I spent 2 hours trying to find the first location and got bored. To each their own but that was a dumb ass mechanic.

If you can't follow the storyline it's not the mechanic that's a dumb ass.

Taking the pictures has nothing to do with the main storyline, beyond maybe a quick tutorial of how it works at one point. I'm halfway through the main storyline and I can't remember the last time I even opened up the camera.
