afaik there has been no software hack on anything other than the OG switch v1 (which still requires you to fuck with the RCM bootloader by paperclip), there is a chip hack for every switch model after but it requires you to open up the switch and solder in a chip and the team that did it got butt fucked by Nintendo and raided by the cops, etc. I don't think anyone even sells the chip right now.

it is possible there will be a software only jailbreak on the switch, it happened on the PS4 a few years ago (for firmware 7.50 or below I think) so you'd probably need a new in box switch thats basically never gone online. but who knows, probably would only happen when a new system is announced and switch firmware updates stop happening.
Give it time, people will find a way.

And on the 3DS+ it was hacked before it was ever released, it took Nintendo almost a year too finnaly fix up all the holes for them, and there are still tons in the system its self(You can't get free games anymore off the eShop, but you can still copy carts.)

Decided to get a Switch OLED, now they seem to be basically unavailable at all the big box stores.

Anyone know if this Global Electronics Store place is reputable? $350 and delivery by tomorrow is pretty good.

That site looks fake as hell and it was just made at the end of July. Buncha websites being made selling things that are out of stock.

Check the usual stores (Target, BB, Walmart, etc.) at midnight and you may see stock going up for sale with in-store pickup tomorrow.

Nothing yet as of 12:20 EST. I'm working on some projects so I'll be up pretty late and will keep checking every so often.

Edit: Some time around 2 EST a bunch of those sites finally listed them, but they're all sold out now. Might go to Best Buy early tomorrow and line up and try my luck when they open.

Available on here. Runs about $420 after shipping. That isn't too bad when I consider that I would have paid $385 in a store here after tax.

So basically for $35 and an extra 9 days wait, you can guarantee yourself one here. Much better than scalpers or trying to deal with US retailers getting smashed. This is going to be impossible to get this holiday season if tonight was any indication (retailers selling out in <1 minute upon listing) so this might be the best bet for anyone that has missed it thus far.

Unless it turns out the UK Switch is incompatible with US games, in which case the joke will be on me. To my knowledge the Switch is region-free, at least among first-world countries.

the switch is region free, obviously you'll need a different power cable but that should be easy to buy. It is a new dock so dunno if the old switch power cable works, I think its a USB-C to wall?

just make 100% sure when you first login/setup you are using the US eshop. The digital marketplace is NOT region free, each one is its own little thing and you'll want the US eshop (over UK/EU) since DLCs etc are all cheaper here and you'll connect in multiplayer games usually to your own region (based off eshop).

switches are physically in store at Target and Gamestop but quantities are very YMMV. i've heard both sides, that there WILL be restocks of the oled switch between now and xmas and there will NOT be. I don't think anyone really knows.

Gamestop is currently offering $260 for a regular switch (v1 or v2) in trade credit, or $135 for a switch lite. If you do buy a new one, transfer everything over FIRST (much easier with both in hand) then go trade in the old one. I might swing by my local GS and see if any in stock at open, if there's a line i'll pass.

All indications are that a more powerful 4k switch WILL be released next year sometime, so this switch OLED is going to be a bit of a white elephant in 6 months.

Can try Gamestop too. I just picked mine up at 10:15 and they said they had 3 for preorders and 3 extras that were still up for grabs. Nobody camped out or even showed up before the doors opened at all.

Only way to fix drift permanently is buy a Hori Split Pad Pro, which is vastly superior to joycons even if you don't have any drift problems at all. AFAIK the ones included with OLED Switch are pretty much identical to the previous ones.

Did they address the drift?

they claim they have been fixing the drift incrementally over the past 3 years, but are pretty janky about saying "there is no more drift in joycons anymore".

and yeah i use a split pad hori (undocked) and a switch pro controller docked, joycons are too small for man hands

Just be careful about getting a new power cord. When my son broke his charging port I was researching replacing it and ran across people talking about having their switch fucked up just from using aftermarket chargers. No idea if they were trying to use chargers too weak or powerful for it or if Nintendo has some kind of logic board in their power supply. I have drilled into my wife and sons head they can only use the charger that says Nintendo on it just in case.

I bought one at Best Buy for in-store pickup, should have it by Wednesday. I am actually at the office today so can't drive around to a bunch of stores to check stock. Our original switch has been dropped so many times the screen is cracked in like 8 different lines, so it was time for a new one.

I've only ever heard of the ones that claim to be a dock replacement bricking the Switch. The problem is that Nintendo used a slightly non-spec HDMI implementation and ones that just use standard HDMI have the potential to fry one of the chips. If you do want a replacement charger that takes up a ton less space when traveling, the best is the Genki Covert Dock. I've been using it since the Kickstarter and it works perfectly. They were aware of the HDMI issues and designed it accordingly.

If you just want a charger that doubles as a power supply for the stock Switch dock, any USB-C PD charger by a reputable brand (Monoprice, Anker, Aukey, Inateck, etc.) that is at least 45w/15v/2.6A is fine.

Something to be aware of if you already have a Switch case you really like, it may not fit anymore. Especially if it's the larger type that carries the dock and accessories as well.

I use this one and it's by far the best available imo:
Amazon product ASIN B0762HG88J
Unfortunately the OLED Switch is a tiny bit wider than the old models and it's way too tight to cram into the slot where it goes. The same is true for the dock if you need to carry that too (I use that space for my Split Pad Pro because I have the Genki Dock when I travel). Other cases probably have similar problems and will need to be updated for the OLED. RLSOCO has promised a new case soon after release.

That is what they'd say if they want the OLED to sell well.

Confirming a 4K Switch is on the way would kill OLED sales dead.

My local Gamestop told me that whoever doesn't claim their preordered OLED by 8 PM or so relinquishes the guarantee, because the remainder go out into regular stock, so if I call before they close and they have any unclaimed OLEDs, they'll sell me one. Tempted to cancel the UK preorder now and do this instead, because they sounded pretty sure that they'd probably have something for me.

Japan and the U.S. use the same power cable so I have a feeling it'll just be the normal power cable. Amazon EU doesn't specify, so I don't know if this would be a UK-based Switch, France-based, or something else. They all use different power cables. It'd be a lot easier for them to just use the US/Japan cable universally and let other countries sort it out via adapters. I've got both-way adapters for every power outlet type in Western Europe so I should be fine either way, hopefully.

Yeah, I bought a switch at release, put the official cable in a junk drawer and have used various USB-C cables the entire life of my switch. It's probably been on 15 different chargers, both base and cable, including multiple different battery packs and stuff too. Never had any kind of issue. *my 2cents
