So, obviously the trailer is edited that way to make us feel like all these people are reacting to the same event, the "Awakening", but that got me wondering..

Since there is hardly any Force users left after the previous movies, basically no more dark side users and one (maybe two with Leia) light side users, maybe the Force "awakens" every now and then and suddenly triggers Force-sensitivity into a bunch of random beings across the galaxy, to get the ball rolling again?

If that's the case, that sucks for that black stormtrooper, you don't want to become Jedi-potential in the middle of the 501th Unit hah.

Anyway, I'm liking what I saw, even if it was very much too little to really tell anything. Darth Voldemort has a cool sword, the X-wings brushing the water looked wicked and I can't wait to get more Falcon and TIE, so bring it on.

UE already had it well established there are tons of force sensitive people out there. Natural talents, people like Han solo, who never had any training. If they were found as kids, they likely would have been taken in an trained as Jedi. but since they weren't, they are just left as is.
The force effects everyone already, thats outright said in the original trilogy.

UE also has failed jedi, dark jedi and grey jedi, who were not executed in order 66. Prequels say this as well. Obi-won and Yoda were not the only Jedi to survive, and go in hiding. Many abandoned the Order, and thus lived. Easy to think a number of them fell to the dark side, as well.
But then clone wars also has people like Ahsoka, who also left the order, and lived. so, again, kindof established there are people with some jedi training out there already. who could have easily formed their own orders.

Hell, that is how I would write it. Starwars was started as a Samurai movie. Imagine dojos of Jedi, and aVagabondgoing around and challenging/training at different jedi masters, to become the Sword saint. These masters were failed padawans, that invented their own schools, practices, and codes. Rival schools of Jedi competing with each other.

And of course Sith and Jedi holocrons litter the galaxy like candy. And the living force guides people to them all the time.

Makes way more sense for light sabers to have a cross piece hilt, always wondered why they didn't just slide on down the beams and clip some fingers...
I'm not complaining, I like the idea. Besides, all the material seen so far hints that the villain we saw has a cybernetic hand, so it's not far-fetched to imagine that he improved his saber to have a crossguard SPECIFICALLY because it happened to him in the past hah.

In reply to the EU wall of text above : Yes I know that, but considering Disney has scrapped most of the EU/Clone Wars stuff, and that the scenes from Episode III really hint at most of the Jedi being wiped out by Order 66, it's possible that there is still very few people able to properly use the Force out there by the time Episode VII rolls in.

Basically, the Force awakens because it's not being used enough, and instead of waiting for Jedi or Sith to find apprentices and padawans, it just triggers into some potential force-sentitive people.

Not bad as far as teasers go. I do like that they made sure the characters seen were new. Seeing the Falcon might have given me a slight chub.

This looks like it'll capture the essence of the original trilogy. I don't see what everyone is complaining about.
Force of habit. A lot of people are so used to hating on Star Wars because of the prequels or because it's the bandwagon that they're trying to be trendy by hating on this one before it's cool.

Although I agree 100%, i think the way they did it is retarded.

The crossguard extends from the hilt.. leaving a large gap between the handle and the crossguard beams that could allow the lightsaber to slide down and sever anyway?
Unless they're using some sort of anti-lightsaber metal like cortosis, why not just make the entire crossguard out of it?

Well, I think beside the possible practical uses of having a crossguard, we shouldn't forget that the number one reason why Sith would use a RED saber and wear all creepy dark cloaks is because they just want to look badass and evil. And that saber looks badass, practical or not.

Doesn't look bad, but the voice over sounds like someone with throat cancer. And the line he says has lucasesque levels of cheese.

hilt guard makes 100% sense.

So would a lightsaber with a dynamic range controlled by the force lol.

The teaser was just okay, which is acceptable for a teaser. It didn't really show anything interesting in it and could be summed up as, "we're making a star wars sequel."

It kinda calls to mind Anakin's role in the prequels, that whole restoring balance to the Force bullshit, which made absolutely no sense. It's as if there needed to be a do-over and "the balance" isn't what Anakin achieved, he simply made the conditions for it possible. I don't know if I like the idea of trying to redeem that shitty plot device.

I always assumed he provided balance by helping kill all the Light side users he could find. Much easier to wipe out inflation than to create a huge amount of darkside users with the only mantra of 2 bullshit going on. This idea is darker than most people want this story to be though and yell at me when I mention it. (The wife)

I like the idea too and it fits, but IMO it's only valid if the movies express the idea.

My biggest problem is jedis sitting in a luxurious facility in an incredibly wealthy planet-city and talk about, "Oh man this Anakin kid is going to bring balance to the force!". Where is the guy that stands up and says, "Hey if this is imbalanced I don't want to be balanced. Let's go blow up a few hundred droids n shit."
