they all say "online only" but they can only be shipped to stores once you start checking out. They're not at the actual store, they're just assigned to a store.

They can only be ordered online, for in-store pickup. There is not a best buy in the country where you walk in and see these cards on the shelf for purchase, but they won't ship it to your house either.

This is horseshit. It is only true for big cities. For suburban areas there is still no stock because there are no places for in store pickup.

Big cities? i dont live in a big city. I live in a small city in Ohio with 2 BB - and its not like these things are in stock in stores, you have to let them be shipped to the store to be picked up - im not sure what dictates how many they can get to the stores but thats just how it is. I could have literally purchased about 9 GPUs if i wanted just bc the process for the first time was working as i guess it should. Ive tried all the others and only managed 1 3070 which i put in my gf pc - all the other drops were a disaster.

each card is assigned to a store before it's put up for online ship to store purchase - it's how they mitigate scalpers and ensure they are spread across the country. It's not perfect but it's about as good as it's gonna get as far as "fairness" goes.
You're in an area that likely doesn't have many bot scalpers or as high of demand, so it looked to you like there was a lot available (because there was, for your area).
I would say being further away from urban areas, but having best buys near you, is the best situation to be in

Because you live in a low demand area, that's why you're seeing good availability. BB seems to have allocated a set number of cards to each store that may or may not correspond to expected demand but probably has a floor quantity. Your demand in Ohio is far lower than the demand in say northern california, that we sold out of the allocation nearly instantly and you still have allocation available for reserving/ordering.

Interesting - sorry i know shit of retail - i assumed theyd just be shipped to the stores since i cant pick them up till Saturday. I may offer one here after i check with my coworkers who've been having issues getting cards. Wont know till mid next week or so.

My bad too, I thought they were going to mostly urban areas where the demand is the greatest. Apparently it is low demand areas that have more than 2 minutes to try and get one.

I got mine 2 weeks ago today, shipped to my house. If I had bought the 3090 I just had in my cart, it would have been shipped to my house.

I didnt even see the option for ship to house - it was only in-store pick up or else id have overnighted them to me.
