The price drops that are coming for the 3000 series could be very juicy. But if the 4070 is faster than the 3090 ti (current rumor), it would still be wasted money.
Nahhh, unless you plan running like 2x4K screens with games playing on each. Youre talking about the flagship Nvidia Card of this gen. Something like 100% increase from a 2080 (what you have right now). Far from wasted money.

Besides, if people thought like you no computer systems would ever be built because everyone would be just waiting for the next upcoming thing. I understand that its a lot of money but you need to keep shit in perspective.

I build my systems to last. And have been planning for the next build for a few months. The cpu, bus and memory generation are more important to me than the gpu. If you build early in the cycle for those specs and components then the computer can be upgraded with gpu's while still maintain it's beast mode for a long time. Pcie 5 and ddr5 are just beginning the next cycle. Good time to build for them.

I'm not one of those who is always waiting for the next big thing. And I've been building my own machines for decades. I build early in the spec upgrade cycles, use quality components and make them as quiet as possible. Then I just use the machine, occasionally upgrading the gpu.

I have also been running 3 2560x1440 monitors since 2015. So I need a lot of gpu power. Even though it's not that efficient and not as supported as it use to be, 2 card's in sli work much, much better running 3 screens than a single card. The new cards can do it, but heat issues crank the fans / noise at those resolutions.

3090 ti founders edition is currently $1100 at best buy

If you have a best buy credit card AUG23CCSAVE10 takes an additional 10% off, plus you'll get $45 in reward points. Can get some cash back through portal sites. Under $950 for a brand new 3090ti FE is pretty good, esp since a 3080 FE is still $700 msrp

Still, rumors put the 4090 as just a beast even compared to a 3090ti so I'm just gonna wait and see

digital foundry talked to an intel fellow about the intel GPUs, i haven't really paid much attention but just know "ARC fucking sucks"

tl;dr intel didn't intend to release the a380 to users which is why its out in china only and has basically no real software support

Extremely techie talk though which is great, he mentioned Intel is committed to doing GPUs for at least a decade but for now its basically always gonna be the worst performance.

3060 TI / 3070 prices are still quite high and most SKUs are hard to find. Intel won't have much trouble selling ARC gen 1s I think, they might not make their desired profit margin but I think they'll sell quite well.

1500w is like the max they can go anyway and keep it from becoming 220v. Or else were all going to be adding 220 circuits.

I never doubted 1300W+ PS are out there, Ive seen them and I even got the 850 in my system which is prolly like 50% overkill. I was just saying that there is a MAX they can go before a computer no onger requires a PS but a welder. I think a basic 15A or 20A circuit can only handle like 1500W before shits starts tripping. ITs why all the appliances you get for home, like fryer for example, are at or just below like 1500W. Because the fryer would sure profit from something like 2000W or 2500W. Erronius Erronius get your electrician ass in here and explain.

I'm not disagreeing with you, lol. An overclocked CPU pulling down that type of wattage with two 4090's backing it up isnt going to be some common peasant build, either. The fact that a single PC and monitor is going to dominate a single breaker is a bit concerning, however.

Just what I need, a computer that would need to use my 50amp welder socket.

Some people would view this as an absolute win.
